We stopped and board scouted every drop as a group. There was some discussion as to what lines to take, but most were OK with the unknown approach. We ran left, ran right, and ran the gut of all the drops. People were egging each other on and trying to get everyone to push the limits and their abilities.

By the time we reaching Lonely Island it was raining. We navigated through another surf zone and then traveled the mile and a half up the east shore of the island. Lonely Island is shaped like a hat, with a short brim of rocky shelves or cobble beaches at the shore and a ring of 100-150 foot cliffs similar to those we saw on the Bruce Peninsula and elsewhere, forming a plateau at the top.

Fluid Blog Fluid Blog: What's new at Fluid Kayaks: outfitting, composite boats - and hot babes
The Comp Nemesis is available in M as well, and interestingly a S/M version is currently in the making. This size will fit right between our current plastic Small and Medium sizes, and will be the boat of choice for mid-sized paddlers around 60-75 kgs.
Markus Leppaenen Markus Leppaenen: Extreme speed and fun with Fluid Element
I also had my first goes in the Fluid Element. It is such a fast boat, unbelievable. The perfect choice for Kuchl if the level is too high and the wave is green, i.e. too flushy for "normal" playboats. Therefore in my opinion not just an ocean kayak but the right boat if your regular freestyle boat is too slow for a river-wave.

The drive from Ottawa was long. But when I got to Fort Smith and saw the Slave River my shoulder started to feel good. I got so lucky to catch the right water level for a wave named Roller Coaster.

Adrian Tregoning Adrian Tregoning: Palmiet River – Cape WhiteWater Club Paddle
Every year the Cape WhiteWater Club gets together at least once to run a 'learn the Palmiet' day, as well as a 'learn the Wit day.' On these days beginner paddlers are encouraged to get to know the Palmiet. So on the 18th of July 2009 a day was organised to paddle down the Palmiet River. More of a social thing than actually teaching people about the river as everyone there had done the river already but it was a glorious day out with good people in perfect weather. There really isn't much to say about the trip and more so the river, so I'll let the photos do the talking.

I paddled right along the Ferry Building and watched the diners sitting outside of the Slanted Door. It was as if they didn't even see me. That's the thing about being in a kayak. You are invisible, because no one really expects you to be there, sneaking under piers and looking into windows.

My line went well. I stayed very loose going down the falls because I knew that there was gonna be a hit on rock at some point. With a small bounce I faded a left stroke and tucked up for a nice impact at the base. Felt good to be back in the zone and hitting my line on such a tough drop.

The Buddy has a more defined tri-hull than the Chumani and Synergy, which share the same hull concept. The tri-hull is achieved by a soft keel complemented by curved rails on either side. This combination makes the boat track quite well on flat water for such a short sit-on-top, but at the same time, it enables the boat to play and carve on ocean waves.
