Road Tripping in Patagonia Chile ~ Taking the Sprinters out for a spin

Playak Weekly Digest
The world's top paddling links in week 52, 2011.
Chris Baer Road Tripping in Patagonia Chile
Chris Baer (Thursday 29th) ** - Casey Tango on the first water fall of the Rio Fuy Rio Llancahue Pucon was starting to dry out and the team packed the rental truck up to get on the road heading south. It was rather late in the evening when we arrived in the Rio Llancahue valley. After a quick search for ...
Imagine Surf Taking the Sprinters out for a spin
Imagine Surf (Thursday 22nd) ** - The surf is basically flat, so we took a 2011 and 2012 Sprinter, and a Speeder, out for a spin, leaving from Haleiwa harbor and heading east up the coast. It was a relaxed paddle, with much mucking about in boats, good laughs and some funny spils. But it was all in a good cause, as we were testing ...
Team LiquidLogic Jura area
Team LiquidLogic (Friday 23rd) ** - The Jura, small area from eastern of France but they are many small rivers, we runed some classicle rivers like Saine, Ain, Anguillon, lemme but somewhere water flows in the gorges at the middle of forest. So, last week I spent 3 days in the jura area, we found two rivers, La Cimante with some small waterfall, ...
Wavesport Blogs River Etiquette
Wavesport Blogs (Thursday 22nd) ** - A low water time of year in the Columbia River Gorge, I am reminded of the great numbers of people that manage to paddle the same river, on the same day, at the same time. Don't get me wrong... as far as I'm concerned, the more the merrier! However, it is a good reminder of the river etiquette we should all have when paddling with a large (or small) group.
Team Pyranha The White Nile… finally… (with the JEDi prototype!!)
Team Pyranha (Monday 26th) ** - Within a year of learning how to roll, I put a Uganda trip to surf the Nile Special on my 'to-do' list.  For the past 3 years I have been haphazardly making plans and searching flights to Entebbe, hoping to check it all out before the dam flooded the top section.
worldkayak blogs 2011 Year in Review
worldkayak blogs (Sunday 25th) * - 2011 was once again a bloody big year. I headed up to Cairns to help run and participate in Monsoon Madness, the inaugural national boater cross event with the national freestyle championships tied in with it. I was fortunate enough to win the 2011 National Champion at this event and really enjoyed boating with the crew up there.
New River Academy Nilahue
New River Academy (Friday 23rd) * - Two days after my break of stouting began we went to the Nilahue. Nilahue is an estimated 30 foot slide to a 30 foot free fall. There was a volcano that erupted recently before we got there. It brought the river up to 93 degrees fahrenheit and the level shot up. When we got there it was very brown and there was pumice rock floating around in the eddies and popping up in the boils however the level had gone back down making it more vertical.
LiquidLore Pamela Creek - Vancouver Island
LiquidLore (Sunday 25th) * - Pamela Creek is one of those tiny creeks that turns out to be really fun. It's in the Gold River zone on Vancouver Island - the Gold and its tributaries represent an unusually concentrated region of whitewater with good varitey and varying difficulties - nothing there is too crazy either.
Jackson Kayak Rio Oro, Waterfalls, Ocean run out, surfing! Big Day!
Jackson Kayak (Friday 23rd) * - We woke up early, before sunrise, and loaded into the vans to head about three hours north along the coast to the Rio Oro.    We have the creekboats on one van and the fishing, touring, and recreational boats on the other two.    Our hope is to do a creek run and then spend some time fishing and touring around this beautiful area.
padallen Glenroy River in High Water
padallen (Sunday 25th) * - After warming up on the Buller River in the morning, we headed back to our camp at Murchison for a quick lunch. We then set out to run the Glenroy River for an afternoon paddle. A bit of rain had begun to fall in the last couple of days, which was great as it had been dry for quite a while.
Dagger Blogs Wintertime!
Dagger Blogs (Wednesday 28th) * - Although it really doesn't feel like it most days here in the southeast we've officially reached Winter.  Winter brings a lot of good things but it can often be a hard time to motivate to go kayaking.  After all snow, sleet, winter mix, or rain when its 35 degrees don't really scream "let's go ...
Chris Baer Nevado
Chris Baer (Sunday 25th) * - Casey Tango putting down the landing gear at the Crack drop. Another day in paradise... the Rio Nevado just out side the town of Pucon, Chile is an absolute gem.
Jackson Kayak Villain S in Chile
Jackson Kayak (Wednesday 28th) * - For the past 3 weeks I have had the privilege of testing the Villain S out in Chile on some of the worlds best creeks.
homemade kayaks Rough seas
homemade kayaks (Saturday 24th) * - Rough seas predicted for the weekend,so we went out to see if the surfing was any good.
Werner Winter pool skills with Werner's Kelsey Thompson
Werner (Wednesday 28th) * - Here is a great piece from our white water World Team Paddler, Kelsey Thompson, on how to perform your "Back Deck Roll." Whether you are a white water boater or a touring boater playing in more advanced conditions, as Kelsey explains this technique is a fast way to get kayak upright quickly. Read through this lesson and give yourself something new to work on in the pool this winter.

Playak News Flash - December 14, 2011
The world's latest paddling headlines.
Louise Jull Huka Falls!
Louise Jull - The Huka Falls are a set of waterfalls on the Waikato River that drains Lake Taupo in New Zealand. At the top of the falls is a set of small waterfalls dropping over about 8 metres. The most impressive, final stage of the falls is an 11 metre drop. This 11metre drop is a large mass of clear blue water and a great spectacle wonder for many.
Level 6 French Massif Central, best fall creeking place!!!
Level 6 - We were waiting for the rain for a while now, for few months actually, then Mother Nature gave us a lot of southern wind which bring the rain on the Cévennes region. Well, all options of kayaking places were offered to us, just have to choose!! I went to paddle the flood Ardèche river, which is called the "french mini Zambezi", a big waters section full of waves!!
Rocks & Water Telemark
Rocks & Water - When August turns to October, we got unbelievable amount of rain. Together with knowledge necessary to understand Norwegian online water gauges, we didn't miss a single day with good flow in the Telemar. It's just a 45 minutes drive to the put in for Ausbygde river, so we didn't find reason to not spend there every day.
Astral Currently Aniol's Chile Update
Astral Currently - This last year is becoming the most incredible adventure ever, It has been a few few months out of home, living out of my backpack and travelling from one place to another. I arrived in Chile a few weeks ago, we haven't lost anytime and we haved kayaked everyday. The water levels are pretty low for the month of December but we still getting to do all the best stuff.
Immersion Research NE Fall Wrap-up
Immersion Research - It has been a terrible fall for kayaking up in New England. All of the rain that normally falls over the course of a few months decided to fall over a few hours, devastating Vermont and NH and making for a horrible kayaking season.

PaddlingLight Learning the Greenland-style Storm Roll Part 1: The Foundations
PaddlingLight - Being a Greenland-style kayaker I take great pride in my ability to roll. I've spent many hours practicing and honing tiny details to make my rolls smooth, graceful, and quiet. And I am not alone. There are tons of us out there.
Adrian Tregoning Molenaars River – Screw You Climate Change
Adrian Tregoning - I won't even begin another article by complaining about the lack of water, so I'll just state again that this season sucked - thank you climate change. Let me also state that this November was probably the chilliest I've experienced since moving to Cape Town in 2008 and today is the 11th of December and I'm wearing a jersey, and yes, it even rained this morning. Our weather has definitely gone bonkers.
Daan Jimmink NZKS Staff Trip on the Mokihinui
Daan Jimmink - Each summer the staff of the New Zealand Kayak School get on a team mission and undertake some kind of adventure together. Someone came up with the idea of getting into the Mokihinui for a two-day trip, which was likely to be fantastic on the back of all this rain.
PeakUK The Future of our Sport!
PeakUK - After posting news pieces from exotic locations, in remote areas or on picturesque Alpine Rivers, the past year has been a great one. However one of the major highlights definitely has to be coaching the kids on the lake from our local village. For the first time this year we joined together with Hotel Austria in Lech on their active programme for kids and teenagers.
SUP Connect Paddle Board Yoga Airs on National TV Show
SUP Connect - Dr. James Sears, one of the six health panelists on the nationally syndicated show, The Doctors, headed to Marina Del Rey for a lesson of stand up paddle (sup) board yoga, or Supaqua, as Sarah Tiefenthaler calls it.
New River Academy Yoga for Paddling | Focus: Hips and IT Band
New River Academy - Its Easy to Apply to New River Academy; Before coming to work at New River Academy, I had a long history of traveling and kayaking, as well as a history of aggravating my ilio-tibial band. This is not always the best combination. To help combat the large amount of time I spend cramped in my kayak, I have turned to yoga. I have been around yoga for as long as I can remember, but it wasn't until I started paddling daily that I really found its benefits on my body and my paddling.
SW Sea Kayaking Grey Purbeck seas and skies
SW Sea Kayaking - With a week of back-to-back strong winds predicted locally, a few of us paddled from Swanage to Kimmeridge in the calm before the storms. The tide races around St Albans Head were running strongly, and I was paddling a less stable kayak than my normal Cetus…

Dagger Blogs - It's been a terrible fall for kayaking up in New England. All the rain the normally falls over the course of a few months decided to fall over a few hours, devastating Vermont and NH and making for a horrible kayaking season.
Evan Garcia Palguin Sessions
Evan Garcia - The Palguin river runs off the flanks of Volcan Villarrica, there fore it almost always has a runnable flow. Being summer time rats here in the small town of Pucon this fits perfectly into out busy agenda. Only 20-30 minuets from downtown this river offers close reliable class IV-VI rapids for us ...
Sweet Chile
Sweet - After almost two good months in Mexico, Aniol and I decided it was time to leave this country filled with waterfalls, sombreros, tequila and tortillas. After a hectic travel from Mexico City thru Panama, where we almost lost our flight due to all the quite girls, we reached our final destination this season: Chile!
Dagger Blogs on the road again...
Dagger Blogs - After running the dirty Gerd we jumped on Evan and Anton car "blue balls" and droved straight to the nilahue, the most perfect slide/waterfall in the World. Leif and Natalie Big Thompson and Pacific Northwest Videos
Leif and Natalie - I've been slaving away nonstop, only taking breaks to eat and go to the bathroom, and I am happy to report that the video edit from the Big Thompson this fall is finally done. The Big Thompson is one of my favorite training runs. It is far more difficult than it is dangerous,..
First Ascent Kayaker Chris Korbulic Returns to Africa to Confront the Unknown
First Ascent - Forging ahead in Zambia, Chris Korbulic asks: Why do this and what do we want to accomplish? The plane skids and I lurch forward as the wheels hit the ground and the reverse thrust kicks in to slow our careening down the runway before pulling into a rather arbitrary gate. The heat hits me even though I'm three seats away from an open door, the bright African sun is beaming in through the dust, and soon I'm standing out in the red African dirt. This feels right.
Wavesport Blogs Still Boatin'
Wavesport Blogs - Hey Fellow Paddlers.. I thought I would drop a quick BLOG to keep folks informed on what is happening on the Ottawa River. As we move deeper into the fall the River has become empty other than the odd car load of Saturday paddlers.
Demshitz Wapwallopen Creek
Demshitz - The Powder Hole. Thundering through the woods of northeast Pennsylvania, there is a creek called Wapwallopen. That's Wap-wall-open. I call it the Wap for short. It's near the town of Nescopeck, which is known by whitewater kayakers as home to the Nescopeck Creek,a popular novice training creek and a small slalom training course. The Wap dumps into the Susquehanna River,"Pennsylvania's river" and 16th largest in the U.S.
Will Herman A little madness on The Mersey
Will Herman - Shoulders hunched against a bitter wind coming in off the Irish Sea, I stood with hands stuffed inside my B.A, waiting for a lift with the boat down to the sands. I sensed a sidelong glance from a lady walking by:"your brave..." she said. I looked at the sea and shivered. "Daft is probably ...

In any high volume run your going to want more volume in your boat.
SUP Surf WaveJet Propulsion System
SUP Surf - I recently met Mike Railey (CEO and inventor) of WaveJet and he showed me some of their prototype boards which uses the WaveJet Pod propulsion system. This is basically a small jet engine that attaches to the bottom of a water vehicle. Check out the video below where Mike explains the WaveJet Propulsion System [...]
