CORE Paddles More Awesome Reviews and Billy Goes to Chile
CORE Paddles - I have been swamped with production set up over the last month and have not had as much time to post as I would like. Trying to get caught up now...
Wavesport Blogs In Review: The Project X 48
Wavesport Blogs - I have been paddling a Wave Sport Project 45 since 2007, and never thought I would make the switch to any other boat; I love my Project 45! However, from the first time I took a seat in my Project X, I now have a new favorite playboat. Let me tell you why…
Team I-Canoe The Rapids - Galway City - Ireland
Team I-Canoe - Anyone who has had the pleasure of my company, while enjoy a few brews, over the years has heard me rant about "The Rapids" on the Corrib in Galway.
Misc. Canada: Gun registry, bad. Kayak registry, good?
Misc. - Hypocrisy, thy name is the Harper Party. The Transport Canada regulations, brought in last fall, will require everyone from professional outfitters to people leading recreational boat trips to fill out five separate forms, measure their boat and pay a $50 fee. Wow. If the long gun registry is rarely used, a waste of money, and an infringement on our "rights" to do whatever we want; what would that make the Vessel Registration Office and the Pleasure Craft Licensing system?
Desperate Measures Rachel Bovill: HPP & Slenningford Mill
Desperate Measures - I was looking forward to the weekend of the 4th and 5th February, the first GB freestyle team coaching weekend at Hurley with Jacko, then an email came in from Dave Newport -weekend cancelled due to river bank works.
Will Herman The Cumberland Ring
Will Herman - Starting with a descent of the Eden, from source to sea, a rather unusual circumnavigation is underway this week.
Jackson Kayak A Coosa February
Jackson Kayak - Join us on a recent February river fishing adventure with our JK Coosas!
Ireland circumnavigation 2011 Enter Romany Productions
Ireland circumnavigation 2011 - I had an email from Vaughan a couple of days ago, to say that he had put together a piece of video, did I want to see it?
Jackson Kayak I'll be at Black Creek Outfitters Saturday at 2pm for Coosa demos!
Jackson Kayak - Well, I must say I am enjoying the weather here in Florida and getting the Coosa onto some different water types and new species for me.  On my way back up to Charlotte I am making a stop into Black Creek Outfitters in Jacksonville, one of our newest Jackson dealers, to do some demos and share about the Coosa with anyone who wants to stop on by.  I'll also be interested in fishing that morning in Jacksonville if anyone is interested.  After the demos I'll still be around to grab dinner with anyone who wants to join me or knows of any real good "local" hot spots!
homemade kayaks We can surf
homemade kayaks - Waves made todays outing a bit more exciting than usual...

Canoe & Kayak UK Brilliant Whitewater Kayaking Video - The Routine
Canoe & Kayak UK - We see a lot of films and video clips in the Canoe & Kayak UK offices but evewry now and then something special comes a long. The Routine, by Seán Mc Ternan, is just such a gem, and is an entry in the 2011 Rider of the Year Awards. Just watching it made us want to get those summer trips planned real soon.

Astral Currently Lachie's Solo Kimberley Mission Completed
Astral Currently - We are proud to learn that Astral Ambassador Lachie Carracher has completed the first solo descent of Australia's Fitzroy River. Known as the Heart of the Kimberley, it is Australia's highest volume river and boasts some intense whitewater. Lachie completed his mission in just 5 nights which makes it also the fastest descent to date.
Bryant Burkhardt Golden Gate Symposium
Bryant Burkhardt - Once again GGSKS kicked off the year with a weekend that's not likely to be equaled. Three days of teaching on the coast with world-famous instructors, skilled and eager students, incredible location, great party and presentations. Topped off with a couple days of paddling with friends that simply could not have been any better. The weather started cold, got rainy but then improved significantly - finishing up with some sunny weather and smaller swells that made everyone forget the slow start.

Help make the News Watch even better! - Playak News Flash 2011-02-26

Playak News Flash - February 26, 2011
The world's latest paddling headlines.
Message of the Day
Help make the News Watch even better!

help-wantedDo you like the Playak News Watch? Want to help make it even better?

I'm planning to further improve the News Watch and News Flash by making separate versions for Whitewater, Sea Kayaking, and other subjects (SUP, Kayak Fishing, etc). This means that we'll have to hand-pick even more headlines every day, and so I urgently need some people to help.

If you can spare and donate something like 15 minutes per day, you're not employed by a boat/paddle/gear manufacturer (to ensure we stay independent), and want to help make the News Watch even better, please reply to this mail.

Adrian Tregoning Composite Fluid Element at Melkbosstrand
Adrian Tregoning - Alrighty! I've got a few minutes spare while sitting in northern Zambia at the moment and thought I'd quickly post this article of two sessions I had at Melkbosstrand's Tubewave. The water shots were by fellow Team Fluid paddler Craig Rivett and the land based shots courtesy my old man, Trevor. Thanks guys!
worldkayak blogs Hurley Weir 23.02.11 3 Gates
worldkayak blogs - Today I headed south to the UK's premier playspot Hurley weir. The weir was running on 3 gates which is ideal for most wave moves. I headed down and met up with friends Matty Nicholas and Craig Ayres both local boys and 2 of the best Hurley paddlers out there. It was my first time on there in the Project X and I had a great time. Really fast and took some getting used to but worth every minute!
CORE Paddles More Awesome Reviews and Billy Goes to Chile ( hey that rhymes .. : )
CORE Paddles - I have been swamped with production set up over the last month and have not had as much time to post as I would like. Trying to get caught up now...
Jackson Kayak Emily: Rocking Out in Uganda
Jackson Kayak - Hey Everyone. I hope all is well back in civilization! I am still in Uganda with 3 more weeks to go!
Jackson Kayak "Kaiak II"
Jackson Kayak - In 2010 Ben Stookesberry, Brazilian Pedro Oliva, and I faced some of the most difficult whitewater in central Brazil.
Immersion Research All hail the Klingon!
Immersion Research - The new Klingon sprayskirt from Immersion Research replaced the popular SBD (Simple, But Dry) series and has clearly evolved from the earlier design. For those unfamiliar with this style of sprayskirt, it is a bungee skirt that sandwiches a flap of neoprene between the bungee and the cockpit rim. What was unique about the SBD (and continues to be so great with the Klingon) is the rubberized coating on the underside of the neoprene where it contacts the cockpit rim, which creates an impressively dry seal.
River Zoo Galician Waves
River Zoo - After a very nice snowy Christmas in the UK with my family the time had come to get out of the cold, back in our kayaks and hit the road in our trusty van for the start of another migration to Europe for the Spring/ Summer So 2 weeks ago we loaded up and got the Channel Tunnel to France. Our real...
Dave Kalama Costa Rica
Dave Kalama - Costa Rica here we come. In just about two months the Kalama Kamp crew and I will be hosting our first camp in Costa Rica. I've been to Costa Rica a few times myself, but I have a feeling this will be the best one because we will have one of the best surfers in Costa Rica, Alvaro, to help make sure we end up in the right places at the right times, thus taking full advantage of local knowledge.
Kokatat Blog Jakub Sedivy Kayaking in Nepal Part 2: Thule Bherri
Kokatat Blog - After we finished our trip on the Tamur with Gene17, I went back to Pokhara where I caught up with Ron Fisher, Flo Fisher and Joerg Hackinger. Ron had been trying to get on Thule Bherri for quite a while, and it looked very promising for the next few days. Unfortunately Ron's flight out of Nepal was in the following week, so Flo, Joerg and I ended up going without him.
PaddleBlogs Liquid Fusion Kayaking: Back to the Mendocino Coast
PaddleBlogs - Charts are spread across the kitchen table and photo galleries are zooming across our computer screens as Jeff and I reconnect after our separate paddling adventures over the past week. Of course our best adventure of the week happened when we both returned to the Mendocino Coast for a sweet sea kayak rock garden session with some special guests.
Adam Frey Lynn creek at a High 28
Adam Frey - I ended up having a free Monday off from work a couple weeks back as my friend from the island didn't come out, so naturally after a weekend full of Chilliwack canyon runs with some very good boaters I was eager to hit something not on my home turf. I was headed to Vancouver for the Monday night Vancouver International Mountain Film Festival Whitewater Night anyway so I thought I'd join some friends for a run on Lynn Creek and then The Capilano beforehand.
Funhog Blob Big tree paddling in the redwoods
Funhog Blob - We stepped off the trail into a wall of shoulder-high sword fern, letting the rainforest swallow us. A vague path, barely discernable, lead deeper into the copse. Feeling our way over a rotten log, the route opened at the edge of a swamp. Soaring redwoods were all around. "This is it," I thought to myself as Lisa clawed her way ahead. Moments later, there it was, the tree, the great tree.
Kayak Yak Monster Alert!
Kayak Yak - ...last week a pair of British kayakers may have snapped a photo of a monster. Locals believe that Lake Windermere in Cumbria could be home to a lake monster similar to Scotland's Loch Ness monster, or British Columbia's Ogopogo...
Raoul Collenteur Playboating the Erft
Raoul Collenteur - Erft has always been the best option for a nearby paddle with good temperatures, and so it was time to get back there this winter. Due to an electricity facility upstream of the hole, the water is hot and around the water there is this subtropic micro climate, awesome!

Wavesport Blogs Finally!
Wavesport Blogs - I have had my Project X for a couple of weeks now and I had yet to get it out other than for some very mediocre surf in Charleston and some flatwater. I had paddled the proto last fall quite a bit but I could not wait to get this freshie out on the water.
Sea Kayaking Cornwall 9 hour police escort
Sea Kayaking Cornwall - As we paddled away from the beach this morning we saw a official looking boat hovering just off shore.
Irene's Kayaking Blog Whitewater Kayaking Slalom Technique How-To Videos
Irene's Kayaking Blog - As usual, after watching videos of my friends creeking Class V, I went searching for some instructional videos on kayaking slalom technique because I know I'm weak in the eddy-catching / boat control department.
Down River Kayaks 2011 New Year's Paddling Resolutions
Down River Kayaks - It's time once again to make New Year's resolutions! And just like every year, you'll dutifully carry them out until about mid February, at which point your new Ab Circle Pro will start gathering dust…
Am. Whitewater Tallulah (GA) Update for Spring 2011
Am. Whitewater - American Whitewater received notice from GA Power that spring Tallulah releases are not likely to occur in the first two weekends of April. Here is part of the GA Power email:
Chicago Area Sea Kayakers Association A Field Guide to Canoecopia
Chicago Area Sea Kayakers Association - Right about now, in houses throughout the Midwest hundreds if not thousands of paddlers are rediscovering the pleasure of snail mail. They have come home from work or the unemployment office to find waiting for them the Canoecopia Gazette, the official guide to Canoecopia, the world's largest paddlesports festival, which will be in Madison, Wisconsin on March 11-13.
KayakCanberra Cotter Playwave Sans Bridge
KayakCanberra - Recent floods have indeed washed away the nasty low level bridge downstream of the Cotter Playwave, tis now safer until such time the bridge is restored.
NC Paddle Surfer Did SUP just go the way of Windsurfing?
NC Paddle Surfer - Remember when high performance windsurfing killed the sport.... Are we seeing this issue creep up on SUP surfing?
SUP HQ Naish Primi Corrected Overall Results as at 16 February 2011.
SUP HQ - Due to some overexcitement, last weeks overall rankings were not correctly worked out. These are the correct new overall rankings in the Naish Primi DWD Series 2011.
SUP Surf Karen Wrenn Paddles into History with 150 Mile Channel Islands Crossing
SUP Surf - Kaenon Polarized™, the Southern California-based Luxury Performance™ sunglass brand proudly announces that stand up paddle team member Karen Wrenn successfully completed her record-setting Channel Islands (CA) crossing. The six day event consisted of paddling approximately 150 miles between all eight islands off the coast of Southern California.
Eastern Horizon Sea way
Eastern Horizon - It is interesting to think about how the land-based circulation pattern of our street systems frames our understanding of the city's topography / landscape and in turn this shapes our understanding about how we move through the landscape. For example, to travel from Manly to Watsons Bay one doesn't think twice about driving 25+kms via Kirribilli.
