Canada: Gun registry, bad. Kayak registry, good? Misc. - Hypocrisy, thy name is the Harper Party. The Transport Canada regulations, brought in last fall, will require everyone from professional outfitters to people leading recreational boat trips to fill out five separate forms, measure their boat and pay a $50 fee. Wow. If the long gun registry is rarely used, a waste of money, and an infringement on our "rights" to do whatever we want; what would that make the Vessel Registration Office and the Pleasure Craft Licensing system?

I'll be at Black Creek Outfitters Saturday at 2pm for Coosa demos! Jackson Kayak - Well, I must say I am enjoying the weather here in Florida and getting the Coosa onto some different water types and new species for me.  On my way back up to Charlotte I am making a stop into Black Creek Outfitters in Jacksonville, one of our newest Jackson dealers, to do some demos and share about the Coosa with anyone who wants to stop on by.  I'll also be interested in fishing that morning in Jacksonville if anyone is interested.  After the demos I'll still be around to grab dinner with anyone who wants to join me or knows of any real good "local" hot spots!

We can surf homemade kayaks - Waves made todays outing a bit more exciting than usual...

Sad News - RIP Mark Neville SUP UK - Police have confirmed that the body found at a Newquay beach last week was that of missing local man Mark Neville.

Snowy River – Guthega Power Station to Island Bend padallen - Despite the fact that there wasn't much water around anywhere, 3 of us (Allen, Josh and Tristan) decided that a road trip was in order. We headed south towards Jindabyne in the Snowy Mountains area.

Brilliant Whitewater Kayaking Video - The Routine Canoe & Kayak UK - We see a lot of films and video clips in the Canoe & Kayak UK offices but evewry now and then something special comes a long. The Routine, by Seán Mc Ternan, is just such a gem, and is an entry in the 2011 Rider of the Year Awards. Just watching it made us want to get those summer trips planned real soon.

Kayak Down Under New Zealand 2011 Kokatat Blog - Jaime Sharp and Dave Briggs are currently underway on their "Kayak Down Under NZ" expedition, an attempt to kayak the length of New Zealand.

Lachie's Solo Kimberley Mission Completed Astral Currently - We are proud to learn that Astral Ambassador Lachie Carracher has completed the first solo descent of Australia's Fitzroy River. Known as the Heart of the Kimberley, it is Australia's highest volume river and boasts some intense whitewater. Lachie completed his mission in just 5 nights which makes it also the fastest descent to date.

Golden Gate Symposium Bryant Burkhardt - Once again GGSKS kicked off the year with a weekend that's not likely to be equaled. Three days of teaching on the coast with world-famous instructors, skilled and eager students, incredible location, great party and presentations. Topped off with a couple days of paddling with friends that simply could not have been any better. The weather started cold, got rainy but then improved significantly - finishing up with some sunny weather and smaller swells that made everyone forget the slow start.

Independent Playak Review: Discover Kayak Fishing – Andy Benham Playak - The blurb of the book states that Andy Benham "…is a lifelong angler and journalist, currently kayak fishing correspondent for Sea Angler Magazine. He first tried kayak fishing in 2009 and was immediately hooked; you will be too." Andy now lives overlooking the sea in South Devon where he spends as much time as possible fishing from his kayak.

Composite Fluid Element at Melkbosstrand Adrian Tregoning - Alrighty! I've got a few minutes spare while sitting in northern Zambia at the moment and thought I'd quickly post this article of two sessions I had at Melkbosstrand's Tubewave. The water shots were by fellow Team Fluid paddler Craig Rivett and the land based shots courtesy my old man, Trevor. Thanks guys!

Hurley Weir 23.02.11 3 Gates worldkayak blogs - Today I headed south to the UK's premier playspot Hurley weir. The weir was running on 3 gates which is ideal for most wave moves. I headed down and met up with friends Matty Nicholas and Craig Ayres both local boys and 2 of the best Hurley paddlers out there. It was my first time on there in the Project X and I had a great time. Really fast and took some getting used to but worth every minute!

"Kaiak II" Jackson Kayak - In 2010 Ben Stookesberry, Brazilian Pedro Oliva, and I faced some of the most difficult whitewater in central Brazil.

All hail the Klingon! Immersion Research - The new Klingon sprayskirt from Immersion Research replaced the popular SBD (Simple, But Dry) series and has clearly evolved from the earlier design. For those unfamiliar with this style of sprayskirt, it is a bungee skirt that sandwiches a flap of neoprene between the bungee and the cockpit rim. What was unique about the SBD (and continues to be so great with the Klingon) is the rubberized coating on the underside of the neoprene where it contacts the cockpit rim, which creates an impressively dry seal.

Costa Rica Dave Kalama - Costa Rica here we come. In just about two months the Kalama Kamp crew and I will be hosting our first camp in Costa Rica. I've been to Costa Rica a few times myself, but I have a feeling this will be the best one because we will have one of the best surfers in Costa Rica, Alvaro, to help make sure we end up in the right places at the right times, thus taking full advantage of local knowledge.

Jakub Sedivy Kayaking in Nepal Part 2: Thule Bherri Kokatat Blog - After we finished our trip on the Tamur with Gene17, I went back to Pokhara where I caught up with Ron Fisher, Flo Fisher and Joerg Hackinger. Ron had been trying to get on Thule Bherri for quite a while, and it looked very promising for the next few days. Unfortunately Ron's flight out of Nepal was in the following week, so Flo, Joerg and I ended up going without him.

Liquid Fusion Kayaking: Back to the Mendocino Coast PaddleBlogs - Charts are spread across the kitchen table and photo galleries are zooming across our computer screens as Jeff and I reconnect after our separate paddling adventures over the past week. Of course our best adventure of the week happened when we both returned to the Mendocino Coast for a sweet sea kayak rock garden session with some special guests.

Lynn creek at a High 28 Adam Frey - I ended up having a free Monday off from work a couple weeks back as my friend from the island didn't come out, so naturally after a weekend full of Chilliwack canyon runs with some very good boaters I was eager to hit something not on my home turf. I was headed to Vancouver for the Monday night Vancouver International Mountain Film Festival Whitewater Night anyway so I thought I'd join some friends for a run on Lynn Creek and then The Capilano beforehand.

Big tree paddling in the redwoods Funhog Blob - We stepped off the trail into a wall of shoulder-high sword fern, letting the rainforest swallow us. A vague path, barely discernable, lead deeper into the copse. Feeling our way over a rotten log, the route opened at the edge of a swamp. Soaring redwoods were all around. "This is it," I thought to myself as Lisa clawed her way ahead. Moments later, there it was, the tree, the great tree.

Monster Alert! Kayak Yak - ...last week a pair of British kayakers may have snapped a photo of a monster. Locals believe that Lake Windermere in Cumbria could be home to a lake monster similar to Scotland's Loch Ness monster, or British Columbia's Ogopogo...

Playboating the Erft Raoul Collenteur - Erft has always been the best option for a nearby paddle with good temperatures, and so it was time to get back there this winter. Due to an electricity facility upstream of the hole, the water is hot and around the water there is this subtropic micro climate, awesome!

Finally! Wavesport Blogs - I have had my Project X for a couple of weeks now and I had yet to get it out other than for some very mediocre surf in Charleston and some flatwater. I had paddled the proto last fall quite a bit but I could not wait to get this freshie out on the water.
