Inflatables vs. Traditional SUPs ~ The Seannafarracháin ~ Kayak Kings

Playak News Flash - March 31, 2014
The world's latest paddling headlines.
Laird Hamilton Inflatables vs. Traditional SUPs
Laird Hamilton - Comparing inflatables to traditional epoxy or fiberglass boards is sort of like comparing 4x4's to compacts. The first thing to ask yourself is where are you paddling? What are your paddling needs? Or ask yourself the following questions when comparing.
Team I-Canoe The Seannafarracháin
Team I-Canoe - The Seannafarracháin is one of Ireland's best steep creeks if not the best. Located on the Galway Mayo border just east of Leenane and sitting next to the Srahnalong Valley it lies in an area with some of the best creaking in Ireland. Dropping an impressive two hundred meters in just 1.5 kilometers the Seannafarracháin is filled with endless slides and drops.
Justin Mayer Kayak Kings
Justin Mayer - The idea has been in my head since I heard about mother-shipping offshore. Several years have gone by with missed chances, bad weather, unfortunate scheduling, no funds, bad weather, bad weather, and BAD WEATHER. Then FINALLY, a trip that seemed perfect, a great forecast, money in my pocket, and five other kayakers ready to go. It was really going to happen!
SUPracer Lost Mills, Europe's Premier SUP Race, Announces Dates For 2015 And 2016
SUPracer - In a sport where several big races have been known to change dates (and even their entire location) at short notice, this announcement by the Lost Mills organisers is a refreshing change. The Lost Mills race is Europe's premier SUP race and really helps anchor the whole "Euro Tour", which is a series of events from mid May right through June. By announcing their dates so far in advance, the Lost Mills will be helping other events in Europe plan their schedule ahead of time, which in turn will make for a bigger and better racing season in Europe.
Standup Journal Pro Tip: How To Perform the Best Sup Race Starts
Standup Journal - Starboard's Team Rider Beau O'Brian is back with another much needed training video where he gives easy to implement advice on how to best start a race and gain an advantage over those who don't know these techniques. He covers 3 types race starts beginning with the beginner version where you are standing next to your board, then teaches us the best way to get to our feet from a sitting position (legs in the water) start; and finally the most technical run from the beach start.
SquareRock Claire O'Hara : Kiwi Adventures
SquareRock - Last March I made my first trip to New Zealand when Jason Searle invited me over to train with him. He took me on a 3 week 'non stop' adventure sport tour of the North and South Island and I absolutly fell in love with the place…
Standup Journal Kai Lenny's Insider GoPro Tips: How To Properly Mount and Set It Up
Standup Journal - In episode 7 of GoPro's Athlete Tips and Tricks series, we go to the tropical waters of Maui to mingle with professional waterman and heartthrob, Kai Lenny. Kai takes time away from surfing Jaws and other big wave magnets to teach us how best capture the sport of stand up paddling. He starts with how to properly prepare your GoPro camera for ocean conditions and then dives into the Handlebar/Seatpost/Pole Mount and Chest Mount to cover all the angles
Mt. Hood H2O Diatoms
Mt. Hood H2O - One of the best aspects of kayaking is the ability to explore places that are remote and otherwise inaccessible. I always appreciate that I am able to experience a river, stream, or waterfall that only miniscule fraction the rest of humanity will ever see.
Alpin Action Team Matic Tercelj - New Zealand adventures (en)
Alpin Action Team - "Not really fresh piece of news but still. A week after Citroen extreme race there was the last boater x which counted for NZ extreme kayak series. Bullerfest, traditional weekend lasting event which envives the township of Murchinson at least once a year. The competition was even tougher since a few strong north island guys appeared in Murchinson.
GrindTV On-Water Enormous tuna could shatter world record
GrindTV On-Water - Donna Pascoe poses with 907-pound Pacific bluefin tuna, which is a potential world record; courtesy photo Donna Pascoe did not know what she had hooked when line began to race from her reel; she only knew that it was something enormous.
ACA Become a State Director and Strengthen Your Paddling Community
ACA - State Directors will have the opportunity to foster relevant ACA programs depending on the unique needs of each state.
SUPboarder Great Glen Paddle – Mark Slater
SUPboarder - Last weekend the 'Great Glen Paddle' took place in stunning Scotland. What can only be described as an epic, endurance challenge in tougher than tough weather conditions, definitely pushed competitors to their limits.
Drew Gregory Kayak Fishing Tournaments How Big Will This Get?
Drew Gregory - As I am about to head out to pre-fish for the Kayaks n Greenbacks tournament this weekend I had some interesting thoughts about where this sport will be in 10-15 years. I mean, this tournament will pay out $30,000 total and $10,000 to the winner (if we hit 200 anglers) and that would set a new record in terms of cash payout .
Team USA PREVIEW: 2014 U.S. Slalom Team Trials
Team USA - Team USA hopes to crack the podium at the 2014 Slalom World Championships after recording two Top 5 finishes in 2013. The Adventure Sports Center International in McHenry, Md. will host the World Championships on Sept. 16-21.

Jackson Kayak Living For The Transition
Jackson Kayak - Last fall I fell in love with river fishing. Finding current wrapping around large rocks and logs was really rewarding as summer transitioned into Fall, but as the temperatures began to fall and the days grew shorter I found the bass moving into shallow grassy areas to feed.
Mistral Mistral Ambassador, Steve West's SUP book.

Misc. Outside: On the road and on the river with the first family of whitewater kayaking
Misc. - Imagine you have a son who is born 12 weeks premature. He weighs 26 ounces at birth and fits in the palm of your hand. You're told to prepare yourself for the possibility that he might not survive. But slowly he gains strength, is unhooked from the respirator, and at seven weeks old is sent home. He is still tiny, he is partially deaf, and he will stay small for his whole childhood, but your son beat the odds. If this were your story, you'd have no reason to believe that this baby would grow up to be a world champion athlete. You would simply be happy to have a child alive in the world...

Jackson Kayak Llangorse 2014 – Finally a Fish
Jackson Kayak - Last year I spent two days on this lake without any sign of a fish but this year I was feeling confident. I had a cunning plan which was much the same as last year's cunning plan except that this year it wasn't going to be -8 so the fish would surely be feeding.
