Rubha Reidh: Slaggan Bay to Poolewe ~ Best Paddling Towns: Conway, S.C.

Playak News Flash - June 30, 2016
The world's latest paddling headlines.
Will Herman Rubha Reidh: Slaggan Bay to Poolewe
Will Herman - Landing and setting camp had been a tortuous affair - chilled, wet and a little tired after nearly eight hours on the water, the midges gave no quarter. And so it was with no small sense of relief that I woke to the rustling of the tent and a light offshore breeze. In fact stronger winds were forecast that day, that being in part the reason for paddling the route we had, making best use of the calm seas the day before and leaving less than 20km to paddle into the shelter of Loch Ewe from the camp.
Jackson Kayak APE's Celebrate 15 Years of Cleaning Up the Nolichucky River
Jackson Kayak - Saturday, June 18th, marked the 15th Annual Nolichucky Cleanup. Will Herman The best and worst of the north-west coast: Rubha Reidh
Will Herman - Of the major headlands on Scotland's mainland coast, Ardnamurchan Point is perhaps the best known, marking a traditional divide between more sheltered waters to the south and the exposed north-west. But to my mind at least, it is Rubha Reidh which marks a more significant divide, the seas north of here losing the protection afforded by the Hebrides, from the Atlantic. As the Yachtsman's Pilot notes: Rubha Reidh and the Point of Stoer are notorious for heavy seas...but the coastline itself changes too, Torridonian sandstone forming many of the features which in part at least, are the reason I have been returning for so long.
Canoe Kayak Best Paddling Towns: Conway, S.C.
Canoe Kayak - With a rich history as a riverboat city, it is not surprising that Conway, South Carolina attracts modern river rats to paddle and explore the lazy, blackwater stretches of the Waccamaw River. The Waccamaw travels 140 miles through wetlands and cypress forests from Lake Waccamaw in North Carolina, snaking past Conway to Winyah Bay, just south of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina.

Kokatat Northern Alp Lakes - pearls for paddlers
Kokatat - My new book project led me to the spine of the continent, the Alps. I was astonished by the beauty I found exploring 20 different lakes in Switzerland, Germany and Austria, far away from my usual paddling ground - the sea. It was like paddling between the Fjords of Norway, but with much better weather and almost no wind. Lots of cultural highlights to visit, and local food specialties that will make you lick all 10 fingers.
Karen Wrenn Rogue River Race & Gold Beach Adventure
Karen Wrenn - We were headed to Gold Beach for a Standup Paddle race on the Rogue River that was starting at the mouth of the Rogue from the Pacific Ocean. Four standup paddleboards on our roof and every inch of my Suburban filled up with family and toys we headed South on Interstate 5… destination Gold Beach, Oregon. Gold Beach is about a 5 ½ hour drive from Portland and is almost to the California border.
Walk on Water SUP Co Kids Camp + Stand Up Paddle Boarding= Best Summer EVER
Walk on Water SUP Co - Remember the lazy days of summer fun when you were a kid? Long days outside, playing with friends, swimming, riding bikes, catching bugs, drinking lemonade. Well, I guess times have changed somewhat. As a first grade teacher, when I asked my students about their summer plans, answers ranged from a dull "Nothing," to "Play all of my video games," to "Watch TV." What!? I truly hope my kiddos were just unaware of the summer adventures that awaited them with their families.
