Palm/Dagger Europe are once again involved in sponsoring the Youth Freestyle series for 2009. The first event at Llangollen took place under bright sunshine and blue skies, unfortunately this also meant extremely low water levels with very few places to get any verticality for the freestyle competition.

Spring had finally sprung here in the UK and there's been lots going on. At the end of March the annual National Student Rodeo took place along side a new show, Paddlefest. Held at Holme Pierrepont, Nottingham, the two events had had to be combined, as the winter's refurbishment to the slalom course had not been completed in time for the NSR planned for three weeks earlier.

In March, Brazilian Pedro Oliveira ran a 127-foot falls in Brazil breaking Tyler Bradt's former 107-foot record (Alexandra falls, BC Canada). There was huge media coverage worldwide about Olivia's record. While most people imagined this record would stay for a very long time, Tyler Bradt just ran the 186 ft (nearly 60-meter) Palouse Falls in Washington State, smashing Olivia's record by 59 ft!

With the recent arrival of the new Diesel 80 to our front door, I was psyched to get on the water and try it out. To be honest, at 5'6 an 125 lbs, I was a little hesitant about jumping in the boat, as it is a good bit larger than my Habitat 80.
