The best and worst of the north-west coast: Rubha Reidh Will Herman - Of the major headlands on Scotland's mainland coast, Ardnamurchan Point is perhaps the best known, marking a traditional divide between more sheltered waters to the south and the exposed north-west. But to my mind at least, it is Rubha Reidh which marks a more significant divide, the seas north of here losing the protection afforded by the Hebrides, from the Atlantic. As the Yachtsman's Pilot notes: Rubha Reidh and the Point of Stoer are notorious for heavy seas...but the coastline itself changes too, Torridonian sandstone forming many of the features which in part at least, are the reason I have been returning for so long. Best Paddling Towns: Conway, S.C. Canoe Kayak - With a rich history as a riverboat city, it is not surprising that Conway, South Carolina attracts modern river rats to paddle and explore the lazy, blackwater stretches of the Waccamaw River. The Waccamaw travels 140 miles through wetlands and cypress forests from Lake Waccamaw in North Carolina, snaking past Conway to Winyah Bay, just south of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Rogue River Race & Gold Beach Adventure Karen Wrenn - We were headed to Gold Beach for a Standup Paddle race on the Rogue River that was starting at the mouth of the Rogue from the Pacific Ocean. Four standup paddleboards on our roof and every inch of my Suburban filled up with family and toys we headed South on Interstate 5… destination Gold Beach, Oregon. Gold Beach is about a 5 ½ hour drive from Portland and is almost to the California border. Red Bull Heavy Water announced as an addition to the 2016 Stand Up World Series Circuit SUPPaddleboard.com - Red Bull Heavy Water, arguably the most intense stand up paddling event in the world, is announced as part of the 2016 Stand Up World Series circuit, with an event window from Sept. 1 to 28. The location will guarantee 40 of the world's best SUP athletes, waves over 10ft. high, and consist of an open course that stretches 12km (7.5 miles), starting at Ocean Beach and finishing just past the Golden Gate Bridge. Rod or Reel? Jackson Kayak - Recently I questioned Facebook folks to choose between the rod or reel as the most important part of the rig. Yellow jerseys reign supreme as Casper Steinfath & Fiona Wylde take victory on Day 1 of the World Series in Germany Waterman League - Casper Steinfath (Naish) showed to the world what he was capable of at Stop 1 of the Stand Up World Series in Japan back in May by taking down the ever dominant Connor Baxter (Starboard) and Kai Lenny (Naish) in a formidable performance that propelled him to number one in the world. Hungary tops the medal table after the first final day in Moscow ICF - But it was Serbia who won the first medal of the championships. Hungarian born Serbian athlete Kristina Bedec produced the best time to pick up the gold medal in women's K1 1000m. Tamara Takacs (HUN) was second and Conny Wassmuth (GER) third. Michael Booth & Sonni Honscheid take the long distance win, with Connor Baxter & Sonni taking the overall victory in Germany Waterman League - After a crazy day of weather yesterday, it was a complete turn around today, as the sun came out the win shifted 180 degrees and blues skies dominated what was a beautiful day here in Scharbeutz, Germany. From Alabama to Colorado Jackson Kayak - For the past four years, I have made the trip from Alabama out to Colorado for the freestyle kayaking competition circuit. In total, I attended 3 events which is the most I have ever done! Despite having to compete in the Men's class now that I'm 19, I am proud to say I made it to finals in all 3 events. Frenchman Jeremy Teulade Narrowly Wins the 'Happy Summer' Race in Namur SUPracer - Frenchman Jeremy Teulade has claimed Week 8 of the EuroTour for Team Starboard, out-sprinting Norm Weber (Siren), Davide Ionico (Fanatic), Martin Letourneur (Hobie) team mate Boris Jinvresse, compatriot Joseph Gueguen (Nah Skwell) and home country hero Joep van Bakel (Fanatic) after almost an hour and a half of tight, flat water racing in the Belgian city of Namur to win the Happy Summer SUP Race. Starboard Dominates Stop 2 in Germany Starboard SUP - Connor Baxter wins men overall in Germany, Booth the distance and Fiona the sprints and lead of the women's ranking. Connor Baxter wins the second stop of the Stand Up World Series held in Germany with twice a second place, first in the sprints behind Casper Steinfath and then the following day in the long distance behind team mate Michael Booth.
