Hap Wilson – the paddler who ensured that Temagami region did not lose its wilderness Canoe Kayak - As paddlers, river and ocean lovers we need to have so much passion for these water wonders that we must fight to save it. A canoeist Hap Wilson did exactly that and saved the Temagami region from losing it's wilderness. Find out how he did it, so we too can do useful actions to save our places from losing its wilderness. Hap still fights to save wilderness, writes canoe guide books, guide expedition. He is a paddler that should inspire paddle community to act to conserve the wilderness. Make most of Free entry to Canada's National Parks through Discovery Pass Traversing - To celebrate Canada's 150th, Parks Canada gave everyone a pretty cool gift. Simply head over to their website to order a free 'Discovery Pass' which will let you enter any of their 46 national parks, 171 national historic sites, four marine conservation areas, one national urban park and eight historic canals. It seems everyone we chat with has heard about the Discovery Pass, however there are two important things that many people keep getting wrong about the free pass… Last tournament of the year 11/19/16 Jackson Kayak - One of my favorite tournaments to fish is the Where Y'at which is hosted by my local club Bayou Coast Kayak Fishing Club. Chasing Niagara - A real life white water action film to watch unsponsored - I have just finished watching the full version of Chasing Niagara (just over 1 hrs worth of action). It has been available for a while via iTunes at a cost. However it is currently available to watch for free on Red Bull TV. Huge waterfalls, near death experiences all captured in such a way that makes Chasing Niagara appealing to both paddlers and non-paddlers. North Korea travels with SUP surfing in the Korean peninsula SUP International - Sarah Hebert travels to North Korea and goes to score waves at the east coast of Korean Peninsula. North Korea has a lot to offer surfers and Stand Up Paddlers with water sports opportunities so it is good that now the country has opened the doors for visitors to explore the place. That means the kayak fishing season was close to 3 weeks longer than normal! It was enough time to get out and target Largemouth Bass via kayak before the freeze. Izzi Gomez is your 2016 Stand Up Paddlesurfing World Champion Waterman League - It's hard to believe that Izzi Gomez (Starboard) has only just turned 17 years old, yet has a list of accomplishments that even someone nearing the end of their career would be proud of! Since capturing her first World Title back in 2014, Izzi has continued to lead the charge in the women's side of Stand Up Paddlesurfing, helping to set the standard for performance surfing for the girls that has been evolving at a staggering rate. Top 10 paddles of 2016 - #6 Tony Paradise - Counting down my top ten paddles and I find the first kayak camp trip, but not the last, on the top 10 list. On the weekend of July 9th and 10th the kayak club had its introduction to kayak camping trip. This year the guys organizing it went further afield from the usual place and decided on Great Colinet Island. We met at the gas station on the Trans Canada Highway and convoyed down to Admirals Beach in St. Mary's Bay. We hovered while some of the tardy finished loading their kayaks. Christmas on the Concord Trash Paddler - It was sunshine and a very decent amount of open water this paddler received for Christmas.  Aside from the iced-over approach to the Egg Rock inscription, the main channels of the Assabet, Sudbury, and Concord Rivers were running free. Idrija – A Hidden Run in Western Slovenia Andraz Krpic - Rainy November days in Slovenia. Most people seem to not enjoy this time of the year too much. Us kayakers are a bit special. For me, the best part of realizing that I was going to spend this fall back home was the expectation of this wet weather. Top 10 paddles of 2016 - #7 Tony Paradise - On Christmas morning the countdown continues with a short post on a paddle Cathy, Gary and I did on November 11th from Tors Cove to LaManche return. Normally we get 19 - 20 kms by handrailing the shoreline but on that day it was rough and we had to stay off shore due to the conditions making only 14 kms. There are days when I enjoy a calm water paddle and there are days I like to get my hands dirty so-to-speak. This was one of those days.

Before The Freeze Hala - Instead of doing all the shopping madness I utilized my Black Friday to #optoutside. Plus I am an REI employee so I had to take full advantage of a paid day off to explore :) I went to St. Croix State Park to hike and paddle. Top 10 paddles of 2016 - #9 Tony Paradise - Nine days left in the year and today its my 9th favourite paddle of 2016 from Colliers to Cupids on April 17th. This is a shorter version of the original posts with a few shots not previously pulished. We met in Colliers and did a car shuttle up to Cupids before we put in at almost 11:00. Colliers can be a long carry to the water when its low tide because its very shallow near the beach.The paddle north of Colliers along the cliffs doesn't offer a lot of scenic shore until Turks Gut at Marysvale were we had lunch an hour and a half later. Why You Should Try River Bassin Jackson Kayak - Let's start this article by giving you a little insight on the River Bassin' Series in case you are not aware of its existence or how it's run. Enough water to paddle and play with Jackson Antix on Rock Island, Tennessee this Winter Jackson Kayak - Rock Island actually has enough water to paddle, play and work on river running moves without hitting the bottom – this was fantastic. The same is not true at T'Ville, my local run. Even in low water, Rock Island is still a paddler's paradise! Every time I paddle with EJ, I learn new things. On this occasion, we practiced boofing the Antix and we worked on sprint drills. I really enjoyed the way the Antix paddled and handled. Very easy to paddle, boof and sprint. Probable Last Paddle of 2016 Frogma - I'm on the tail end of a cold and it would've been tempting to take another day to be a lazy git, but I floated the idea of a paddle with TQ and he was up for it, and it was a lovely day out there. Nothing dramatic, just out around Ruffle Bar and back, but it did feel good to get out there and get moving. There's always that point in a cold where you could stay home another day, but you know it would probably be better to get off yer duff and go do something. Had rapids to have some white water fun in Canada Ben Hawthorne - I got myself set up, got into some working and pretty soon i got into some kayaking as well. I actually did alot of kayaking this last summer, but as evidenced by the photos here it was mostly after work, evening runs. The upside of this is that the Sqamton area, and the sea to sky corridor is home to some of the best whitewater on the planet. It was a good reason for a moonlight paddle. It wasn't a paddle for the scenery but for the experience of paddling under the supermoon. It was different from a daylight paddle. The conditions were right and we had a super bunch of people together. A most enjoyable paddle so it ends up on my list of top 10 paddles for the year. Body of Missing Paddlerboarder Recovered Distressed Mullet - Sad news out of Minnesota this morning.  The Associated Press reports the body of Andy Stifter who went missing November 26 has been found.
