As anybody who has ever been through a large newsagents can testify, paddlers are well catered for when it comes to magazines. Some excel in the quality of their writing and photography, some in the usefulness of their articles, some for their news content and some offer a special interest - sea kayaking for example, or white water. They all have their own distinctive feel, their own identity.

After several years of intense debate, negotiation and collaboration, the Cresta reach will see boatable flows again this year. The flow release will be a single pulse that will increase base flows starting on May 1st and continuing through July in a normal water year and through June in a dry year.

A small but dedicated group of Australian Freestyle kayakers attended the 2009 Freestyle Selections over the Easter weekend.

While the weather in the lower mainland of BC is slowly starting to switch from the rain and cloud of winter to the rain and cloud of spring, the rivers are also slowly starting to awaken and trickle back to life.

It will see me out at Hawaii Sur Rhone big wave freestyling, Creeking with Alex, James & Ron in Switzerland, Sea Kayaking in Angelsey, Canoeing in Wales and coaching in the French Alps, all topped off with leading a canoeing trip for a disabled group down the River Wye for 4 days.

We raced from the put-in bridge at Rockville to the pool below Big Splat, roughly 1.66 miles. The level was 5.7 ft.This race was easy to do and fun.

While Norway still lays in winter land, we left to Corsica seeking for warmth and water. Our Norwegian-Canadian-Italian group of 7 paddlers met on the Island for an epic 12 days of creeking. 10 rivers: but easily 50 rapids and 30 boofs a day! Corsica is having one of the best years for water this season, with record snow pack from the last 30 years.

The Department of Land and Natural Resources (DLNR) will host an informal discussion regarding the use of stand-up paddle boards within the ocean waters of Ala Moana Beach Park.

With a water temperature around 50 and air temperature around 56, all three of us wore dry suits with minimal insulation underneath. The water and wind were generally calm but the wind picked up a little near the end of our trip.
