Playak: Interview: Randy Phillips
Interview with Randy Phillips, kayak surfer and designer.
Team Pyranha: Great Falls, Great Photos, Great Halloween!
While much of the kayaking community was at the Green Race, we spent Halloween afternoon and the next day paddling the Maryland (pummel) and Virginia lines (the Spout) at Great Falls on the Potomac River.
Palm Blogs: Tyne Tour
I've just got back from what must be one of the biggest events on the UK boating calendar. Every year over 1000 students, ex-students and general rabble gather in Hexham near Newcastle for the annual carnage-fest that is Tyne Tour.
Kayak USSR: Katun Alcotour – a story by our client
This summer I had a passionate desire to do a kayaking trip on my vacation. I started a desperate search of options where and with whom to go. The thing is I wanted to not just go paddling, but also improve my skills, paddle with someone who is better then me, and actually learn something. Luckily I got to the kayakUSSR.com site and met Peter Malkin, who convinced me to go for a Katun tour.
Adrian Tregoning: First Gatsien Session of the Season!
The word had been out on the Whitewater Tangent for weeks, and the Sunday was finally upon us: the first water release on the Vaal for the summer. The canoeists were having a race, along the section above Parys, and had managed to convince the Department of Water Affairs and Forestry (DWAF) to release about 80 cumecs of water. I'm not sure how the canoeists always manage to get these water releases organised, but they do. Maybe it's because there are a lot more of them around? If it was up to me we would have a water release every Sunday.
Nigel Foster: Kayaking In China
Kayaking in China with our Chinese friends was an opportunity not to be missed! Our first excursion is on the Huang Pu River in an area where large barges on the main river transfer sand to smaller barges that can navigate the maze of narrower waterways that break the fl...
Werner: Appeal To Support American Whitewater
Werner Paddles believes in AW's Mission, they are a valuable partner in our Healthy Waters Initiative. Here is a short appeal to all of us who love access to free flowing rivers by Mark Singleton, Executive Director of American Whitewater.
Adventurous Experiences: The Cycle Of Change...
Its a time of change - in many ways, from the vibrant colors of the leaves to the bigger picture of the world on general. The only thing that is guaranteed is - things change! Generally for the better - and a great example of this are the students on our Youth Scholarship Program , in whom we see numerous small positive changes as training continues, and they gather increased confidence through working hard and achieving, pushing personal limits and working together to towards the final goal.
Misc.: Kiteboarder's close encounter with a huge whale
Now Australian school teacher David Sheridan knows how Jonah felt - or near enough...
Happy Paddlin': Spitfire Kayak
Spitfire Kayaks have introduced their first model on to the market and I just had a chance to get it out on the water. Spitfires were designed to introduce people to kayaking at the affordable price of $249. The boat is fully equipped and has a lot of nice features for the money--mounted seat back, sculpted footbraces, stern deck bungees, drain plug, and carrying handles.
SUP Surf Mag: A Look At The Nsp 11' Stand Up Paddle Surfboard
The NSP 11' stand up paddle surfboard is not a high performance piece of equipment but it is tons of fun in surf up to about shoulder high and in flat water. We had so much fun on the board we got a pair for right conditions. The board comes with a pre-installed deck pad. It also comes wiht fins, and leash. In this review we'll go over the equipment and performance.
Jimbo Meador: Save Our Kids From "nature Deficit Disorder"
Scientists are discovering that when kids are in contact with nature they experienced benefits in many ways that include reduced symptoms of hyperactivity and attention deficit disorders.I have found that taking kids fishing in a kayak gets them out in nature and benefits them beyond just their learning how to bait a hook, cast, etc. It teaches them paddling and boat handling skills in a quiet, peaceful, environmentally friendly atmosphere.
surfski.info: Pete Marlin Memorial Race (southern Shamaal Pe2el Qualifier)
On Saturday the 8th November about 55 paddlers from East London and Port Elizabeth gathered to race the inaugural Pete Marlin Memorial Race. Pete was a popular ski paddler and lifesaver from East London BCC, who died tragically in a canoeing accident. The race is held every year in his memory.
Stan Mac Kenzie: "the Slip, Bauline Newfoundland"
Bauline is a very small village nestled in the cliffs of the western side of the Avalon Peninsula, The Bell Island side. It is roughly 18.2 km from Pouch Cove on the eastern side of the Avalon Peninsula. A welcomed site after about a 2 hour paddle from Cape St. Francis in headwinds and strong gusts with persistant rain.
PDX River Explorers: Tr: Canyon Creek Washington
The rain is back to the NW and so are our favorite runs! One of my personal favorite Canyon Creek! Here are some cool pictures. The water level was about 550cfs which is aprx. 6"in. under the unit.
