Playak: South Africa: Gauteng Province, Klip River
Much has been said about this small little river. Mostly negative comments and 'enthusiastic' accounts of dead animals stuck in trees and memories of upset stomachs. Why would anyone want to even paddle this cess pool? Certainly after hearing the opening statement I'm not sure anyone would want to. Well, let me attempt to dispel a couple of myths and set the record straight over the friend we have had so much fun on over the past few years.
CKS Squad: Green River Race
My east coast road trip concluded with a stop at the Russell Fork Rendezvous in Kentucky and a week of paddling the Green River Narrows in North Carolina. I am stoked to have gotten the chance to paddle the Russell Fork, it's a super fun river. And, despite the low water levels and an epic hole punishing, the Green River was just as good as I remembered it.
CKS Blog: Pyranha Z.One Whitewater Kayak Review
Pyranha seem's to have been pretty busy this past year designing new boats. The Karnali and the Z.one are two notable designs that should be very popular. The Z.one is a recreation of the InaZone, which was one of the first (and best) free running kayaks of all time.
Adrian Tregoning: The Riviersonderend – Back of the Moon Section
The largest fresh water reservoir in the Western Cape is the Theewaterskloof Dam. The exit of this massive dam (for South African standards) releases into the Riviersonderend. I had never been here before so was keen to see the dam, as well as the river which people spoke highly about. Because this section is so heavily dependent on water release, it is not run very often. In fact, it had only been once (I think) over the past three years. We had been having good rains and the water was overflowing into the river, so it was good to go. The only downside if that every man and his dog was there that day and fifteen of us set onto the river...
Whitewater-Koa: Kathmandu
Team NZ and the Nepali girl kayakers! Holy Lodge, Kathmandu - sorting gear With all our gear loaded on the plane and thousands of dollars of excess baggage snuck in under the maximum limit and we were off. Arriving in Kathmandu we re-gathered the 7 kayaks and hundreds of kgs of gear and headed to Holy Lodge, Kathmandu's kayaker hang out.
paddling.net: Sea Wings Recoveries & Uses
The most frequently used solo recovery after wet exiting is the paddle float recovery. The paddle float converts your paddle to an outrigger which provides you support while re-entering your kayak (see USK article, "Paddle Float Recovery").
surfski.info: Caribbean Paddling Update - Trinidad & Tobago
Trinidad and Tobago paddlers celebrated last week as they feverishly unpacked the container loaded with 25 new surfskis, almost doubling the number of available craft on the island. 22 of the skis belong to the T & T Canoe and Kayak federation and were funded by the Ministry of Sport and Youth Affairs. These boats will be available for anyone to paddle and the Surfski Club and Federation will be running regular open days and coaching sessions to get people hooked on this great sport.
SUP Surf Mag: On Oahu For The Triple Crown? Stand Up Paddlers Guide For The North Shore
Whether you shortboard, longboard or stand up paddle surf, the Vans Triple Crown of Surfing is in town with today marking the first day of the holding period for the first jewel of the series. The Triple Crown marks the three final events of the both men and women pro tours. Competitors and spectators from around the world make a yearly voyage to the 7 mile miracle known as the North Shore. Both men and women compete first at Ali'i Beach Park for the Reef Hawaiian Pro.
Team Riot Kayaks: Riot Magnums Descend On Canyon Creek Wa.
Now that the water is back I have had a chance to really see how this boat handles, and handle it does! Wow this things is hands down the sickest and most responsive boat I have ever paddled! Good job to Riot for designing such a awesome boat! Now moving on to the creek. We were all stoked to back on Canyon Creek this is such a high quality run! Thanks Mother Nature.
surfski.info: National 1 Series (france): Race Report
Although weather conditions kept the racing in the Brest road stead instead of the open ocean, the inaugural N1 Series was a great success, enjoyed by all.
SeaKayakPhoto.com: The Missing Mermaids Of The Water Cave, Ailsa Craig
Immediately to the west of Stranny Point on Ailsa Craig lies the beautiful Water Cave, with its pillared entrance at sea level. It is sometimes known as the Mermaids' Cave and winds for 43m into the heart of the Craig and is best entered by kayak at high tide before exploring the remainder on foot. ...
Blogs: Silverbullet's Adventures: Inflatable Stand Up Paddleboards!
Stand Up Paddling (aka.SUP) is the fastest growing on water sport our nation has seen. SUP is part paddling, part balancing, and part surfing. In small swells, you can easily paddle into and ride the waves without worrying about how to stand up and surf. You already are standing up. No waves, no problem. On any body of flat water, you can cruise and glide while touring the local sites efficiently and while enjoying a great vantage point for aquatic wildlife and other vistas.
