In general Central Plateau is an amazing place to go and had adventures, whether on the water or off. It is absolutely beautiful and for the most part untouched wilderness.

Kayak Session Kayak Session: Whitewater legend Lars Holbek
Whitewater legend Lars Holbek passed away on March 13th 2008 after a fairly short battle with cancer. Following up on many request from our readers, and Lars' circle of close friends, we decided make available online an article we published in our 2008 Fall issue (KS27). Lars is already greatly missed, certainly by his friends, but as well by the wider community. For those who were lucky enough to know him well, we hope the article has done justice to his character and his life of accomplishment. For those who did not know him, we hope it will help you better understand who he was, and what his life and legacy brought to our sport and our community.

NW Rivers NW Rivers: Re-visiting Riverhouse
for the first couple miles the run alternates between punchy rapids with some waves and holes and flatwater. Everything is scoutable from a boat and the rapids are a nice warm-up for the bigger stuff downstream. Shortly downstream there is a small ledge drop known as The Wright Stuff that has a couple chunky lines.

Safety, team work, putting the team first, making history and "getting the job done", and going big are all part of an expedition lead by Ben Stookesberry. This latest waterfall hunting trip to Mexico is a perfect example. Rafa ran a 100+ foot Anaconda Falls and cleaned it, yet he is humble, helpful, a kayak instructor, and part of a team.

I have been competing in the best Surf Kayak Festival since 2006. The Santa Cruz Surf Kayak Festival is well organized and is held on the amazing Steamer Lane break. The waves this year were smaller on Friday and Saturday but we were awarded in the finals with great waves.

Today Senator Murray and Congressman Reichert introduced joint legislation ("Alpine Lakes Wilderness Additions and Pratt and Middle Fork Snoqualmie Rivers Protection Act") that will help ensure the future of some of Washington's most popular backcountry recreation areas by designating more than 22,000 acres of wilderness adjacent to the existing Alpine Lakes Wilderness Area.
