The British Universities Kayak Expedition 2009 is well underway. A long, and somewhat convoluted journey across China (which turns out to be quite big), into Vietnam and ended with the team plus boats in Hanoi.

The bottom of the first rapid is formed by a tight constriction with plenty of funny water in front of it. The hole, at 350 cfs, is small in size, but curiously strong .. and difficult to hit with the proper combination of speed and angle, which produced some interesting results.

PeakUK US PeakUK US: Potomac Fest
This year's boatercross was a rolling format- 3 rounds with 3 different courses, increasing in difficulty and finishing with tricky lines through Little Falls. The boat length cut off was 7.0 feet, the idea being to race in playboats. I brought along my trusty small Ammo (6'9").

In a clear victory for the Paddling Community. The Legislature's JCAR Committee, meeting in Springfield, July 15 voted eleven in favor (with one member voting present) to send The Dam Safety Rule# 3703 back to the DNR to be completely rewritten.

The goal had been attempted over two years by Simon Osbourne of Sea Kayaking Cornwall. I recorded a Podcast with Simon when he and Phil Clegg were part way around.

The crossing over to South Manitou turned out to be pleasant and uneventful. We made the trip in about 2.5 hours, helped by a favorable breeze at our back.

What a blast we had a Whiskey Town Lake just west of Redding CA last Friday night. The weather could not have been more agreeable. The lucky people that call this area their home are fortunate to have nice warm water to play in.

SUP Surf SUP Surf: JEVER SUP World Cup 2009 – Race Recap
Hamburg, 12th of July 2009 27.000 spectators, 143 participants, six proud winners, a lot of new infected Stand Up Paddler, an easy going surf atmosphere amidst the Hamburg HafenCity, high spirited after show party's, action on the water of the Elbe and a lot of fun – short, the JEVER SUP World Cup Hamburg 2009 was a thorough success.
