Dave Hoffman: Experiencing Metlako Falls – My First 90 ft. Waterfall Metlako is a perfectly shaped waterfall. A gently sloping slide launches down into a deep pool. There is no entrance move to make, there is no exit to navigate, no cross-currents pushing sideways, nothing but a beautiful freefall to the deep pool below. What holds me back is the same thing that inspires others to kayak it – Metlako is a huge waterfall.

I began to assess their preparedness. I watched as they inflated their raft. It was an older bucket boat, but appeared to be in good repair, and seemed adequate for the class III-IV float they were about to embark upon.

Go Kayak Now: Kayak Surfing San Diego 2009 A standup paddler paddled over the top of a crest on a wave I had already take and was surfing and then cut towards me on his board, luckily I broke away from him and past him. One of the old guys on a longboard gave him a bit of a tongue lashing and told him he basically stole the wave.

You have to sit in the kelp and take off from there. Popular with bodyboarders, mainly beginners. The kelp would be extremely off putting for kayakers. Both the Inner and Outer Kom need to be reached by launching from the rocks, but you could launch from inside the bay too. Not ideal for paddling.

First impression: I liked the confidence giving, responsive and comfortable kayak. The ocean-cockpit with thigh braces integrates a kayaker of my size (1.82 m, 73 kg) perfect in the kayak.
