I've always thought of kayaking as being a sport in which you try to achieve synchrony with the river, not fight against it. I think that the best paddlers are able to put in very little effort to get their boat where it needs to go. This is true even in the most massive, convoluted, class VI rapid.

Middle Cove was choked with ice my ice paddle on March 27 was one that was certain to be on my list of top 10 paddles. I set out to paddle with the ice floes in Middle Cove but when I got there the cove was choked with ice. Not much room for a kayak in there, so I moved one cove over to Torbay.

Where was everyone today on the sea? It was a glorious day with sunshine, views of snow covered mountains, very little wind and fantastic clean waves at Penrhyn Mawr tidal race. After a lovely Christmas Day with our families, Barry and I have enjoyed a couple of days working off some of that turkey and trimmings.

Back to that paddle TQ & I took last week! It was a small-craft advisory day, and I am currently one piece short of my usual winter ensemble (BRAND NEW replacement drysuit is now en route from Arcata, yay, more on that before too long but those who know Kokatat know what I'm talking about.

After Crammag Head, the next headland was Laggantalluch Head where we passed the sea stack of Scutching Stock, the Cave of the Saddle, Ape Rock, which stands like a simian sentinel above Breddock Bay, and the incredibly folded and shattered strata of Muddioch Rock.
