Playak News Flash - April 21, 2010
The world's latest paddling headlines.
adidas Sickline Early Spring Trainings
adidas Sickline - It has been a while since we came home from sunny Uganda. The weather in Europe wasn't very nice, but we didn't stay at home very long. This year, the competition season starts quite soon so we can't wait for warm weather.
SNews 2010 Team Dagger Athletes announced
SNews - Dagger announced today the 2010 North American team roster. The list of paddlers includes world-record holders, elite level competitors, explorers and teachers, with hundreds of first descents combined.
Kayak Hot Dogs White Salmon International Invasion!
Kayak Hot Dogs - I like to call myself a lucky paddler, living in the West Kootenays on the banks of the Slocan River, teaching kayaking, selling kayaks, hell breathing kayaks. We have winter playboating pretty much all season long at Trail wave and Brilliant, super awesome creeks running in the summer months and some of the biggest waves on the planet in early June.
Team Pyranha NOC Shootout
Team Pyranha - This past weekend we hung out at the Nantahala Outdoor Center for the Shootout and Demo Days. It was sweet to see lots of people out there competing in the new molan and plenty of other folks demo-ing the new Burns and Molans.
playak.tv Video: Kayaking a waterfall, Japan
playak.tv - Check the video of Kayaking Inari falls (Fox Canyon) Minakami Gunma in Japan.
Fluid Blog Colombia Whitewater
Fluid Blog - Just north of the Colombia-Ecuador border the Andes mountains diverge into three distinct cordillera which sprawl across the western half of Colombia and continue north to the Atlantic Ocean. The whitewater rivers that drain the snow capped peaks, cloud forests and jungles of Colombiaʼs three cordillera are some of the most spectacular rivers in the world. However, few have explored the rivers of Colombia, because for years Colombia has endured a bloody civil war which is primarily fought in the jungle and remote mountains.
Team Pyranha Welcome Jonny Meyers to Team Pyranha!
Team Pyranha - Demshitz Jonny Meyers in the new small Molan at the Gunnison play park. In this entry he wrote up an introduction and talked about his recovery from an extremely serious snowboarding accident. We are all super stoked to have him on the team and we are glad he is back in the boat. Get ready for an exciting year for team pyranha in the freestlye competitions the boat is perfect and the paddlers are fired up to paddle it.
Palm Blogs Stopper Stability
Palm Blogs - Over the next few months I'm going to be posting up some technique breakdowns from the back issues of Canoe and Kayak UK Magazine. The techniques have been revised where needed, although this applies more to the freestyle technique which will come later. In the mean time I thought it would be best to start from the ground up with a bit of stopper stability which everyone can get something from re-visiting.
Tony Paradise Gimme shelter
Tony Paradise - The forecast called for winds from the east gusting to 40 kms. There are not a lot of paddling destinations to pick from then but the east shore of Conception Bay is a good choice when looking for protection. We settled on a paddle of 10 kms from Bauline north towards Cape St. Francis with the hope of being able to paddle into Cripple Cove for lunch and then return.
Chicago Area Sea Kayakers Association The Fräulein's Wrath
Chicago Area Sea Kayakers Association - My long-suffering wife and I were sharing dinner at an intimate restaurant last night. I was my usual charming, romantic self, prattling on about playing in the surf earlier in the day at Montrose Beach. As usual when I talk kayaking my wife hung on to my every word. There had been three others in addition to me at Montrose that morning: Zach Carrier, Chris Geovanis and She-Who-Shall-Not-Be-Named ("SWSNBN").
