News Watch Headlines Classic: The Grand Canyon in Winter Immersion Research - Roughly a month before the launch date, I secured a call-in permit to paddle the Colorado River through the Grand Canyon. After hustling to make our launch date Dennis Gilfillan, Arlyn Agababian, and I paddled 280 miles over fourteen days in a self-supported trip through one of the most breathtaking landscapes on Earth. It is one of the best kayaking trips I have ever been on. I wrote up this brief trip report for those that might be interested. Review: Kayak Paddle Pogies Exploring Elements - Over that past year I have tried out a good selection of paddle pogies in the cold water and weather of the Pacific Northwest. Most of my testing has been creeking on the local OR and WA creeks, but some high water playboating, surf kayaking, and flat-water workouts were also involved. Each pogie has its pros and cons and everyone will have their personal preferences, but hopefully this info will help narrow the search for YOUR perfect pogies. Futa Fest 2012 New River Academy - Mundaca Rapid had teeth during the competition. Beatdowns were issued to many a competitor. The mountains surrounding our camp at Cara Del Indio were shrouded in clouds for the 10th day in a row. Weeks of Patagonia rainfall have done their best to demoralize the staff and students of New River Academy but to no avail. Spark Testing Palm Blogs - As winter shifts to spring here in the southeast United States the paddling season continues to be a good one. Even though the weather is starting to warm up its still drysuit season and I expect many more days in my Spark before summer truly hits. This suit has been an amazing surprise for me over the winter and I am now a convert to its comfort, versatility, and quality. Exeter Uni gets 5 Star Training Gene17 - We arrived at Newbridge to find the dart nicely lapping over the slab (a very pleasant surprise, as all of us were expecting to find a fair bit lower). We met Simon and Tom, both of which were to be taking us for one day of the course each, switching between ourselves and a 5* assessment over the same weekend. My small Beast. Peter Csonka - First time when I saw Peter's new boat- Beast I was sure I want it too. I tried his boat and despite it has too much volume for me I was able to paddle it. We customized the boat for my weight. I was quite nervous because I took it straight to Uganda without trying it. This past week we had the coldest days of the winter so far and I suspected the falls would be spectacularly frozen in time by Mr. Freeze.
