The Australian National Championships were held at the Penrith Whitewater Stadium this weekend and what a weekend it was. It was run in conjunction with the Penrith Whitewater Stadiums 10th anniversary celebrations which included free recreational paddling, jumping castle, demonstrations by the State Emergency Service, National Talent Scouting by the Australian Institute of Sport for Slalom Kayaking, free kayak instruction all day plus a whole lot more.

The Agout is normally dry, but thanks to EDF they released the water from the dam for the event, which is only two days per year. Along with the concentration, which counted nearly 400 paddlers, a regional free kayak tour was taking place at the Macarel spot, just at the beginning of the section below the Ponviel dam.
