Jackson Kayak Stephen Wright joins NRA for a day on the Gauley
Jackson Kayak - Not all amazing playboaters make great coaches. But, there are a few kayakers who are as good at coaching as they are at kayaking. At New River, we are fortunate to have one of the best as our coach. Stephen Wright will be coaching full time for NRA's third quarter in Chile, but we got a taste of his coaching experience when he helped us on the Gauley last monday.

Team LiquidLogic - Ok I know this is kinda old news…but no one ever got the real story of what happened the day myself and Ryan Lucas decided to run Racehorse Creek Falls. We were on our way back to Montana from a good old Hood River Trip and I got a text from Fred! He sent a cell phone photo of Racehorse falls and said it was perfect level! I have been interested in this drop ever since Erik Boomer ran it in 2009, which you can see here Erik's First Descent!.
ICF A memorable day in Singapore for the Canoe Marathon World Championships
ICF - It was a clear day with near perfect conditions for the fourth day of canoe marathon endurance races. Hungary extended its dominance winning both the women's races in the K1 senior and K2 junior events while South African Hank McGregor executed a perfect game strategy to claim the first place in the K1 men senior event.

As fall approaches in California, the snow melt dwindles and we are left depending on dam releases to keep us occupied until the rain comes in November/December. Whitewater - In an important affirmation of the value of whitewater recreation at federally-licensed hydropower projects, the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) ruled against City of Kaukauna's request to eliminate requirements to mitigate for lost whitewater recreational opportunities with the expansion of their hydropower project. Kaukauna had argued that whitewater boating was unsafe and as evidence cited an inicident this spring where a boater swam out of a hole and self rescued.

USA Canoe/Kayak Kayak Duo Make Fast Friends
USA Canoe/Kayak - Maggie Hogan (San Diego, Calif.) and Kaitlyn McElroy (Oklahoma City, Okla.) had never been in the same boat before a few months ago. Since the 2011 World Championships, the two sprint kayakers have joined forces to form the U.S. Women's K2 500m pairing at the 2011 Pan American Games in Guadalajara, Mexico, Oct. 14-30. The sprint canoe/kayak events will be held Oct. 26-29 in Ciudad Guzman.
