News Watch Headlines Lanakila Classic 5 Mile SUP Highlight California SUP - The 2014 SUP race season has kicked into gear and events continue to grow. The Lanakila Claissic Outrigger, SUP & Surfski race took place on Saturday, February 22 in Redondo Beach. The 5 Mile short course took paddlers from King Harbor to Hermosa Beach Pier and back. Here's a short highlight clip from the race. Pentax Optio WG-2 GPS & Nikon Coolpix AW100 Sydney Surf Ski - Two great waterproof cameras from Pentax and Nikon landed on the same day, and they've been well and truly flogged ever since. My first waterproof camera was the venerable Panasonic Lumix, which served me extremely well until I discovered the stills off a Contour were great, and I didn't have to stop to take them. Cronulla Bay Runner & Kayak 4 Kids Sydney Surf Ski - Cronulla is an awesome place to paddle and the race course had a little bit of everything. Starting in Gunamatta Bay, the line was inside Port Hacking, went across to Wanda Beach, out to Voodoo and back inside Port Hacking and into the Bay. You Down With LRC? with Steven Naylor Jackson Kayak - Little River Canyon located in Fort Payne Alabama I feel is one of the most overlooked high quality runs in the Southeast. Commonly referred to as LRC or The Canyon the run usually sees paddlers coming from the local Alabama, Chattanooga, and Atlanta areas. Having started paddling in the Auburn Alabama area, LRC has been a steady go to in my creeking diet. Claude Delorme-In Awe of Beauty Log of Ibi - After sharing one of Claude's pictures in the last "Shot of the Day," I asked him to share a bit more of himself, since we already seem to share some of the same spirit. If you haven't looked at his Facebook photos yet, you're missing a real treat. Anyhow, this is what Claude cared to add. Lanakila Classic SUPracer - The latest stop of the SoCal Race Series, the Lanakila Classic, was held in Redondo today. In a repeat of the previous SoCal race (Hal Rosoff) it was Thomas Maximus taking line honours on his unlimited board and Spaniard-turned-Californian Belar Diaz beating the locals to claim the 14 foot win. Its a great feeling when you can confidently turn your kayak over on yourself and then come gently back up to the surface, and it helps to build in the idea that the water is your friend and will support you if you let it. Rob Mercer - Shooting The Breeze with Flat Earth Sails Mark Sundin - The plan was for me to tie the kite line through the bow toggle of the other kayak and then add a loop back to the cockpit to act as a quick release if things didn't go too well. Testing the Karma Unlimited/RG prototype Jackson Kayak - Jackson Kayak's popular Karma creek boat is undergoing two simultaneous evolutions this year: The Karma Unlimited creek racing kayak and the Karma RG ocean play boat and river tourer. CIWW Winter Boater Cross SquareRock - Over the winter I have been competing in the CIWW Winter Boater Cross. It consisted of 3 races with the final one last Friday. There were 4 age categories, juniors, 16 and under, 17-39 and 40+. As I'm 16 I was competing in the 16 and under category. 'Untamed Science' Invades Current Designs Kayak Factory Current Designs - Producer Dan Bertalan & host Suze Roots from video production company Untamed Science visited the Current Designs Kayak factory last week to film an educational video featuring rotationally molded kayaks.
