Playak Weekly Digest
The world's top paddling links in week 07, 2014.
Nathan Pfeifer The Grand Canyon (Part 4) - Mile 92 to Mile 132
Nathan Pfeifer - Day 9: Waking up at Trinity Creek, on day 9, I figured I'd go for a quick hike up the side canyon before breakfast. It ended up being a great little adventure, requiring some minor scrambling skills and providing some good photo opportunities of the interesting rock formations where the creek had carved through the Vishnu Schist.
Jackson Kayak Ultralight Kayak Overnighter Sleep Systems – My Choices for Ecuador
Jackson Kayak - Camping from a kayak. No matter what types of kayak it is, whitewater, fishing or touring, camping out of a kayak and spending days on the water is one of my favorite things to do. For many people though, it can be a daunting task, and somewhat intimidating between knowing the right gear to use, how to pack it, and how to stay comfortable and enjoy your days, and nights, on the water.
Jackson Kayak Emily'S Gear Picks for 2014
Jackson Kayak - Every year I pack up and leave home for a minimum of 6 months in one shot. The plan is to paddle every day, but you have to make exceptions for traveling from one location to the other. For a majority of that time I will be in each location for only one week.
Bliss-Stick US Spring Runoff & New England Races
Bliss-Stick US - It was an interesting but disappointing spring here in New England. Some late season snowfall brought us up to average or better snowpacks in the mountains, but spring never really arrived and so the entire snowpack dwindled away over the course of a dry month of 55 degree temps.
WWTCC New Kayaks & Kit for 2014
WWTCC - Bring out a range of sit-on-top based on you sit-in range. Genius. A great way to not only make the positioning of the boat simpler for the customer and indeed the retail staff but also a great way to push innovation in sit-on-top market and hopefully open up whitewater and touring to more people. Lets see how it goes down.
Brittany Parker My Epic Trip to Scotland
Brittany Parker - I love international flying, the coach seats are slightly more comfortable than their domestic flight counter parts. Walking around barefoot, doing squats and crunches, or having a casual beer in the back with a new acquaintance is completely acceptable and doesn't even entice a second glance.
OR Rafting Team Ort – Rafting Around The World
OR Rafting Team - They did a super good job at capturing our spirit and the love for big juicy water.
WRSI How to build a kayak backpack system and a couple offun New Zealand rivers.
WRSI - Paddling in remote locations is immensely rewarding. But, to do so without paying for a helicopter usually means super long shuttle drives or hiking.
Brittany Parker Kilts, Beer, and Paddleboards.
Brittany Parker - Life is a adventure, watch these guys have fun doing different things out of which one is whitewater SUP and rafting...Enjoy the video!!
Daniel Patrinellis Grand Canyon of the Elwha - 2013
Daniel Patrinellis - There's nothing better in this world than shared misery. Once a year there is a 2 to 3 week window when the Grand Canyon of the Elwha is at a reasonable level to boat. The Canyon is great for a couple reasons.
SUP Crossing Preparations for The Arctic Crossing, 'Chasing Ice' Awareness for Global Warming.
SUP Crossing - The start of the Arctic Crossing expedition is now planned for July 15. This will be my most challenging crossing so far. Icebergs, remote location , weather and solo and unsupported 200 nautical miles across the Arctic ocean.
Sea Eagle First-Time Whitewater Kayaking - Class II & III Rapids in Idaho & Payette River
Sea Eagle - Some folks are simply adventurous. Henry Michael, of Caldwell, Idaho, tells us he spent 10 years in the Coast Guard; drove truck for 16 years, and piloted 100-ton commercial ships in the Gulf of Mexico. He rides an 1100cc motorcycle.
Confluence Paddlesports Outlook and Confluence Position for 2014
Confluence - After a few years of guarded optimism and steady growth, I'm pleased to enter a new year feeling bullish – not just for Confluence, but for the entire paddlesports sector.
Girls at Play Novice Costa Rica Trip Recap
Girls at Play - Costa Rica is one of our favorite places to paddle and I believe that our novice whitewater kayakers would agree! Starting off on the Sarapiqui and ending on the Pacuare and Pejibaye, we experienced beautiful rivers, tropical birds, delicious food and a lot of laughter and friendship. Here some photos from our week.
Am. Whitewater AW Not to Pursue Yellowstone Legislation in Senate
Am. Whitewater - American Whitewater has decided not to advocate for a Senate version of the River Paddling Protection Act, ending our exploration of a legislative solution to the management of paddling in Yellowstone and Grand Teton national parks.
