Palm Blogs GalwayFest & Irish Spring
Palm Blogs - Wow, what a season, I finally have the time to sit down and reflect. While the past few months unfortunately brought misery for many; as kayakers we made the most of what was the wettest winter since records began. Rivers and playspots that are rarely up were running consistently for weeks on end, for once making Ireland a somewhat predictable place to paddle, crazy! Check out this short edit I put together and then continue to read some more on our Irish springtime antics.
Bryant Burkhardt Jackson Kayak Karma RG
Bryant Burkhardt - Recently I've had the chance to try out a prototype and then the production version of a new boat. It's the Jackson Kayak Karma RG. To me, the interesting thing is not this boat in particular but what it represents. The easiest way to talk about that is to talk about the boat itself, so that's what I'll do. The Karma RG is meant to be a rock gardening boat. It's based on the Karma Unlimited which was built as a class V whitewater racing boat.

Jackson Kayak Karma Unlimited – first impressions and Cheoah weekend!
Jackson Kayak - I finally got in the production Karma UL on Cheoah this weekend. I thought I'd give you guys my first impressions. It should be noted that I don't paddle long boats very much so it took a bit of getting used to… like one lap. I'll be in one way more often now! In true Jackson Kayak fashion, it was super easy to outfit. I quickly shimmed out the hips and slid the seat back. I like the extra leverage so I added a 100 bean sweet cheeks over the seat to lift me up a bit. All that outfitting took all of 2 seconds at the put-in...

Nathan Pfeifer The Grand Canyon (Part 6) - Mile 175 to Diamond Creek
Nathan Pfeifer - Waking up at Upper Cove Camp on day 17, we were all a little excited, and a little anxious, about what lay a mere five miles downstream -- Lava Falls, the largest single rapid of our trip. The paddle leading up to Lava was very mellow, and essentially pooled-up into a lake for the last few miles above the rapid. One notable feature along the way was Vulcan's Anvil, a black volcanic plug, which rises out of the water nearly 50'. We paddled around and checked out this ominous landmark, but stayed far enough away, since it is considered a sacred site by the Hualapai tribe, and should be respected as such.
