Kayaking for a Rookie ~ Needle in a Haystack ~ 15 – Still Up North

Playak News Flash - July 8, 2015
The world's latest paddling headlines.
River Bassin Trail Kayaking for a Rookie
River Bassin Trail - I am an avid fisherman and have loved fishing since I was first able to hold a rod in my hand. I have fished from powerboats of all sizes in rivers, lakes, and the ocean. My close friend, Ben Adrien, has fished with me for many years and recently invited me to fish with him in a kayak bass fishing tournament. Having never fished from a kayak before, I was somewhat apprehensive. I weigh right at 300 pounds and wasn't quite sure how I would fare in the close confines of a kayak.
Trash Paddler Needle in a Haystack
Trash Paddler - Like most boaters I've lost a thing or two overboard and had to reluctantly come to terms with accepting the loss and moving on. Early this morning I found myself in that position once again.
Kokatat Blog The Northernmost Settlement on Earth
Kokatat Blog - I write this update a week into our expedition: a bid for a world first kayak circumnavigation of Svalbard, Norway. We reached 79 degrees north yesterday, and with that the research town of Ny-Ålesund. We were greeted with a store room to camp in and warm showers, which is quite a treat even after only 7 days and almost 200 km on the water.
Lee Royle 15 – Still Up North
Lee Royle - Some more driving and we found a few other rivers that had some paddleable bits on, but nothing too special.
SUP Magazine Sup Groms Miles T. Harvey The Future of River Sup
SUP Magazine - Miles Harvey is a spawn of the river. At age two he was sitting between his dad's legs kayaking at his hometown Salida Whitewater Park in Colorado. By four he was paddling his own kayak. At eight he was standing up through rapids on a paddleboard. Now, at the ripe age of 13, Miles is a sponsored river paddleboarder competing against adults at river games and festivals.
SUP Surf Board Meeting Episode 2: Preparing for the Molokai 2 Oahu SUP Race – Part 2
SUP Surf - Here is part 2 of our Molokai 2 Oahu episode where Robert and I continue our discussion on how to prepare for the Molokai 2 Oahu SUP race. We talk about training, fitness, nutrition, using the proper equipment, logistics, and a whole lot more to help you guys get ready for one of the toughest races in the SUP racing calendar.
Jackson Kayak Bonefish from a Kayak – Check that Box
Jackson Kayak - Bonefish are a big prize of the fly fishing flats – skittish, finicky, hard to see, harder to land, blistering fast runs, and arguably the strongest fish pound for pound on the flats, they are a wonderful sport fish. People travel the far reaches of the globe to chase these wonderful 'Ghosts of the Flats' with a fly rod. Seeing bonefish tails glistening in the sun are visuals you never forget, and grace your dreams.
Canoe Kayak Nahanni Journal
Canoe Kayak - Canada's South Nahanni River is to canoeists what the Colorado River's Grand Canyon is to whitewater boaters: the ultimate bucket-list experience.
Am. Whitewater Annual Report for 2014 Available
Am. Whitewater - American Whitewater released our 2014 Annual Report, it can be downloaded by clicking here. A couple interesting points from that report. First, we are very fortunate to have a highly diversified revenue stream. What this means for a nonprofit is that if one stream were to dry up, other sources of revenue can carry the organization.
Elder SUP Paddle Catch, Reach and Reaction
Elder SUP - Summer time and the Colombia Gorge Paddle Challenge on the horizon in 7 weeks. Putting in miles and planning solid interval training is just one aspect of what I'm working on this summer.
Palm Blogs Last Minute, Last Hour
Palm Blogs - A day to remember for sure. Outstanding day. Range of emotions and experiences but that's another story. Anyhow, I did end up with the great lads at Norfolk Canoes and handed over my card for another couple of purchases to fit to my Tempo, including something I spotted, grabbed, legged it outside, took the Tempo off the roofbars where it lives and checked it out gave them the card for that too. North Shore Paddle Britches, to stow rod tips for rough landings. They got fitted the next day – worked great.
Simon Willis First Half-ironman distance Triathlon - Notes to Self
Simon Willis - Every so often I like to attempt a challenge with a real risk of failure. From walking the Pacific Crest Trail, to making kayaking DVDs, to cycling the Raid Pyrenean - in all of these I was absolutely uncertain as to whether or not I could finish.
Distressed Mullet Slater Trout Kickstarter Campaign for Northern Waters Book
Distressed Mullet - Slater Trout launched a Kickstarter campaign yesterday to launch his photography book, Northern Waters, a collaboration between him and his friend Connor on their trip to Iceland and Norway. The high end photo book documents their adventures during the trip.
Palm Blogs The Herring Town Run – Great Yarmouth to Lowestoft
Palm Blogs - If you like herring, and fishing for herring, this could well be the best stretch of coast in Britain, it's certainly one of my favourite paddles.
SUP International Sup Armada Reduced Entry Fees
SUP International - We were delighted to be able to share some great news over the weekend that the entry fee for the SUP Armada has been reduced to just £10 per adult and £5 for kids.
