Playak Weekly Digest - week 18

Playak Weekly Digest
The world's top paddling links in week 18, 2010.
Teva Blog Erik Boomer runs 100+ ft Chutes De Magnam
Teva Blog (Monday 3rd) **** - We arrived at Chutes De Magnan on April 29th and took a few hours to scout. Upon first inspection I was unsure if there was a reasonable line. The drop cascades an estimated 100+ feet down a chasm of mankiness... The unpredictability of the rock, speed and difficulty of the entry, and the overall stoutness made the rest of us weary.
Kokatat Blog Hotel Charley 5: First Descent
Kokatat Blog (Thursday 6th) **** - Join Kokatat Team paddlers Jesse Coombs, Ben Stookesbury, Darin McCoid and Chris Korbulic in the most spectacular and dramatic Hotel Charley yet! Three ground breaking international kayaking expeditions unfold In search of a first descent.
CKS Squad Cali Love 2010
CKS Squad (Wednesday 5th) ** - My trip started on April 29th in front of my house looking at my truck covered in snow. I headed to Steamboat for one last day of work before the annual RCRE spring Cali trip. I only had to make it til 2 p.m. and then..... 10 days of freedom.... Cali baby!!! The crew had the truck packed by 3:00 and we were on the road.
Gene17 A week in Greece, a Class III paddler's paradise
Gene17 (Saturday 1st) ** - Gene17's number one Greek Paddler, Spyros invited us to Greece to run a number of courses and to enjoy the best of Greek White Water during the Spring runoff. We were based near Arta in the Central West region, where the deep canyons and lush valleys bring all the very best of Greek paddling adventures.
Immersion Research Video: Playing on the Tygart river
Immersion Research (Thursday 6th) ** - Demshitz is here on the Tygart river enjoying a little playboating.
Team Pyranha Easter Adventures in Morocco
Team Pyranha (Friday 30th) ** - We rocked up to Marrakech airport and found our Omar, our driver for the trip. He led us out to a ~14 seater minibus (well, it would have been if a load of seats hadn't been removed). It was complete overkill for only five people, this was going to be travelling in luxury.
Teva Blog Tevatour 2010: The Corsica Kayak Sessions part I
Teva Blog (Saturday 1st) ** - Teva Life Agents starting the paddling season in Europe. Teva Life Agents Anne Huebner, Ron Fischer and a few friends teamed up over the easter holidays to venture to the holy grail of whitewater kayaking - Corsica - the birth place of modern creek boating.
Jackson Kayak Asahan River, Indonesia - video
Jackson Kayak (Friday 30th) ** - Here's a head-cam video of my adventures this winter in Indonesia. The river is the mighty Asahan, a once popular river that now seldom sees any foreigners or kayakers. It's over an hour of non-stop whitewater through jungles and dramatic valleys.
LiquidLore BC Whitewater Release: Ashlu
LiquidLore (Monday 3rd) ** - Like it or not, whitewater releases are going to be something kayakers will have to deal with in the future in BC. We should all be thankful that someone - whoever was involved, either government dudes or concerned kayakers - had the foresight to see that releases should be included in the licensing agreement for the Ashlu diversion and that they didn't just roll over and die when it was confirmed the dam was going to be built. I haven't been around long enough to know the details of what went down to make it happen, but I have to say thanks for getting it done.
Wavesport Blogs Take your paddling to the next level
Wavesport Blogs (Sunday 2nd) ** - While I was out keeping the skills fresh at Upper Railroad wavehole on the New this evening, I tried to take a step back and look at the big picture of how I can make myself a better paddler. By better paddler, I mean I want to improve my technique, style, smoothness, and snap to my tricks.
playak.tv Video: Nationals
playak.tv (Sunday 2nd) ** - 2010 National Championships Rd 1 Curragower. Freestyle kayaking. Mens Expert Result; 1st David O Sullivan 2nd Conor Bredin 3rd Tomás O Donoghue I have no right to music and am not using it for profit in anyway.
Level 6 HAWAII: In search of Wai
Level 6 (Tuesday 4th) ** - In January 2010 our crew decided to head out to the Big Island of Hawaii in search of all the waterfalls we had seen on the Internet. The crew consisted of myself Shon Bollock, Cody Howard, Justin Patt, Jake Sanders, and producer Harrison Tobin. Justin Patt and I arrived to meet the rest of the boys at Hilo International Airport on the Big Island, after driving from Mt. Shasta, CA to Portland, OR to catch our flight.
LVM TV The Final Four Of The Werner Golden Stroke Contest
LVM TV (Sunday 2nd) ** - OK this was a hard round to judge, actually all the rounds have been hard to judge. So much gold, so much. This is the final round of voting and the winner receives a brand new Werner Premium Grade Paddle. Each person gets one vote so make it count. Now gold.
Level 6 Metz Rodeo Challenge
Level 6 (Wednesday 5th) * - The French paddlers have been pushing limits in freestyle kayaking for a while now with their Gui Gui Boats and progressive paddling, but this years Metz Rodeo was nuts! I took off 8 in the morning, but the quick 4 hour drive the TomTom calculated ended up in 8 hours of traffic jam. We arrived in time to do a little session though and for a medical checkup that was needed (for foreign paddlers).
Playak Pyranha Burn 2010 L
Playak (Saturday 1st) * - The weapon of choice for many of the World's greatest paddlers, the Burn just got better! Subtle performance enhancing modifications make the 2010 Burn exactly what you need for having pinpoint accuracy and boofing down rivers like a Pro. Whether you're eddy hopping down remote gorges in distant locations or just want to Burn down your local run, there's more than one reason why this design is established as THE benchmark creek kayak.
