Playak News Flash 2010-06-08

Playak News Flash - June 8, 2010
The world's latest paddling headlines.
Jordan Searle Yuba Gap
Jordan Searle - What a run! After hearing reviews like 'the hardest run in cali' and 'some of the stoutest white-water you'll ever see' we were always interested in trying to bag this seldom run gem, but with dubious flows and little beta we didnt actually think it would come into fruition... we were wrong.
Gene17 Gene17kayaking News letter – June 2010
Gene17 - It's the dog days of the Italian Steep Creekin' season, it's been an ace , the lines fine and the paddling world class. However the season's change and we're now into Summer and of course Norway is calling any and all adventure kayakers. We'll be publishing more info on the Gene17 Ulla Extreme Race towards the end of June, and there will be more info on at least one new event in Devon this Autumn. In the mean time check out our news below, for Norway, Grand Canyon and French Alps fun.
Sweet Kaweah river drainage, So. Cal
Sweet - After getting to boat with my two brothers for a week here in Cali, we then headed for the always sunny and inviting Kaweah river in Southern California. This drainage is one of my favorites out here due to the quality and amount of white water you can run in a short amount of time.
Evan Garcia Getting Things Started
Evan Garcia - So I know it's been a crazy little run for the past two weeks, but I have been getting some really good paddling out here in Cali. This is a little update of some photos from the time I spent with my good Kiwi buddies here.
Jackson Kayak EJ's Final Update from Europe
Jackson Kayak - Today was our last full day here in Europe. We returned to Austria to the "Hardcore Wave" near Salsburg. Today we had a proper "hardcore" hole as the drop zone for when you fall off the wave, eventually, on each ride. It made it much more exciting.
Wavesport Blogs Tanya Faux Takes #1 at Vail Steep Creek Race
Wavesport Blogs - Today Tanya Faux had an 8 second lead over the rest of the 14 women after her 1st run, relieving pressure for her second run. The overall ranking is based on a combination of both runs, so consistency was key up on Homestake Creek, the infamously gnarly run outside of Minturn and Red Cliff, Colorado. Props to Tanya for paddling her Habitat 74 to 1st place and securing the $2000 prize!
Immersion Research Kelsey Thompson's Take on Summer…..
Immersion Research - I've been on the Ottawa since the start of the month and it's really been a strange spring. Usually this time of year brings high water to the area as the snow melts up north and heavy rains fall. With little snow over the winter and no rain high water didn't come this year. Instead summer came early both in levels and weather.
Jackson Kayak Flashing Freestyle Final at Teva Mt. Games
Jackson Kayak - Emily Jackson and Dustin Urban, who outscored the field in what has to be one of the most debris-filled wave-holes I've ever seen people in line to surf. The water rose over a foot over the course of the day, and it was a clear peak for the year as whole tree-trunks were bouncing by and logs up to 2′ long often tumbled with the athletes in the foam.
Jackson Kayak World Cup 2010
Jackson Kayak - Well thats a wrap folks. The 2010 World Cup is over. In Augsburg we flew into Munich and drove to the course and paddled for a few days, the weather was super cold so me and my dad were ill prepared.
Team Pyranha Vail Teva Mt Games: Day 1 Homestake Creek
Team Pyranha - Today concludes the first day of the Teva Mt. Games in Vail. Here are some results and photos from the Homestake Steep Creek Race.
Dagger Blogs Team D Takes Second and Third at Homestake Race
Dagger Blogs - The Homestake Creek Race at the Teva Mountain Games is infamous for dishing out beatdowns to the most seasoned of class V racers. Today was no exception, with several paddlers getting pinned early on and one swimming out of the six-foot folding pourover only feet from the finish line.
Adrian Tregoning Composite Fluid Element – Lurking in Cape Town
Adrian Tregoning - I've had my composite Element since December 2009. Since then, I've paddled it countless times and on the odd occasion I've been lucky enough to get my old man to take some photos of me when he's been on his breaks during contracts. So this article is mainly a bunch of photos of me and not really an article as such. You'll see some of the photos are really small - these are screen shots from video footage that was taken.
Sea-Boo-Photos Colorado 2010
Sea-Boo-Photos - We came into Salida late in the evening and got our playboats wet and then had a beer with my friend Chris at the "Rope". The next morning the river had risen to nearly 3000cfs. Our plans for the day was to do the Fractions. We hit up CKS in the morning for their Riverfest Sale. I was pleasantly surprised to see Nick Troutman there and also meet Clay Wright.
Kokatat Blog Paddling Life Pro Invitational
Kokatat Blog - Kokatat team paddler Nick Troutman nabs top honors at the Paddling Life Pro Invitational, while Ruth Gordon and Emily Jackson tie for first overall in the women's division.
