Jackson Kayak: It Is A New Year And Starting Off With A Bang!
The last day of 2008 from 3pm-5pm was spent paddling at Rock Island at Brave Wave. I did the seal launch, surfed the top waves one or two times, the main hole one time, and then Brave Wave.
adidas Sickline: 'the List' Takes Its Toll
Initially we had been looking forward to Christmas in shorts, but nature had other plans for us. In Bariloche, Argentina on the breach to Patagonia temperatures around 5 degrees Celsius, as well as snow surprised everybody.
Double You Ess: From The Couch: Low Water Sweet Creek With The Fuse 48
What happens when you go to the coast to go test out the new Fuse and the waves are flat? You go low water creeking! And that is what we did..."Low water creeking": scraping, sliding, pushing, grrrring, hoofing it down a creek. The low water creek of the day happened to be Sweet Creek, the sweetest creek of all, just minutes away from the Oregon coast. Abnormally low, it was the perfect candidate for our mission.
Roaring Fork Kayakers: Snowmass Creek 1st Descent
Located in the Maroon-Bells Wilderness at the foot of Mount Daily and Capitol Peak, Snowmass Creek is a high alpine creek located in pristine wilderness. This creek provides bar-none the most extreme, rigorous kayaking yet discovered in the Roaring Fork drainage and certainly some of the most intense kayaking in Colorado (probably minus the Black Canyon, Pandora's Box).
Immersion Research: The Rio Santa Maria And It's Tributaries: Slp, Mexico.
Just over a day's drive from the southeastern United States lies a tropical paradise just waiting to welcome whitewater paddlers. The rivers that drain the eastern slopes of Mexico's Sierra Madre Mountains boast beautiful turquoise water and a seemingly endless number of rivers and creeks. From the benign to the extreme, the high concentration of waterfalls in this area of Mexico provide paddlers with more opportunity for verticality in couple of weeks than most paddlers get in a year.
LiquidLore: The Middle Feather
Rewind back to June of 2008 - seems like a long time ago now. Anyhow, maybe you'll remember some mention of a kayaking trip to California that my friend Bob and I decided to take part it - it was a long time coming, and we put in a good effort to get on as many rivers as we could in the 5 or 6 weeks that we had off that summer. The kayaking there is pretty good.
Jackson Kayak: Pakistan, Indus River, Day Ten
It was already apparent that the Indus River did not have the long flat sections typical to big water. Between the long rapids we were glad to catch our breath in the few slow moving sections. The days were passing by too quickly. Light fades fast during November in the Karakoram, and most days we started looking for a campsite at three, because the sun would be down by four and light would vanish only too expediently.
CKS Squad: Mike Tavares-a Quick Recap Of Rivers And Places
As 2008 is quickly coming to an end and snow is starting to fly here in the West, I wanted to give a small recap of places and rivers that have made 2008 a great year. Haley and I left Salida in April and headed to California, Idaho and Wyoming for a few months of new whitewater and new places.
Paddling Instructor Blog: New Study Shows Surfers At Higher Risk Of Gi Sickness
A first of its kind study conducted by Oregon State University suggests that surfers may unintentionally ingest 10 times more water than swimmers or divers, putting them at much high risk of contracting gastrointestinal illnesses when surfing in contaminated waters.
SUP Surf Mag: Surfing - The History Of The Great Sport
Although there is no solid written or recorded history of the first surfers it is widely accepted that the sport has it roots in the Pacific Ocean. Despite the claims of some Peruvians who say that surfing was started by their fishermen 4000 years ago the popular theory on the origins of the Polynesian population suggests that it was during the colonization of the Pacific Islands such as Indonesia, Fiji, Tahiti and eventually Hawaii that surfing began.
Brian Vogt: Idaho Road Trip Iii: Nf Boise
After an aborted attempt on the MF Payette run, we headed out to explore the NF Boise. We found some great looking scenery, so we added a few roadside miles to the top of the run to lengthen our float. The overall character of this run is class II-III is a nicely forested canyon.
