Playak Weekly Digest - week 29

Playak Weekly Digest
The world's top paddling links in week 29, 2010.
Level 6 Yoho Teaser
Level 6 (Monday 19th) ** - I've been working a bunch in the last few weeks so I haven't been creeking at all since June but I did throw together a quick teaser as a entry into the Aquabatics Film Competition. The name Yoho comes from a Cree word expressing amazement. While the Yoho is just one of many amazing rivers in the video, that sense of amazement encompasses the entire paddling experience in Western Canada. Make sure to watch it in HD, bottom right hand corner.
Sweet Lake Creek pictures
Sweet (Monday 19th) ** - When I posted video called My Home I called Pine creek rapid my home run. It is true but its easy, accessable, convenience and fun run. In this blogpost I would love to introduce you some of my best home runs ever called Lake creek. It flows in valley next to the road no. 82 called Independence Pass. Most of the summer its really high and running bottom section would be pretty hard core.
Dagger Blogs First Descent: A Dam Demolished Frees A Drowned Section of River (Video)
Dagger Blogs (Friday 16th) ** - This spring, I joined two friends at the putin for Upper Trout Creek, a classic class V run that for more than 100 years has cascaded through steep boulder drops to a lake. This trip down Trout Creek would be different though--the recent removal of Hemlock Dam meant that the lake was gone, and we had several new miles of river to explore.
duemmstuff Norway
duemmstuff (Saturday 17th) * - I´m back from Norway. The temperature is about 35 degree in Czech republic. It´s terrible. There were nice weather without rain and the temparature 25:). We paddled in Sjoa, Otta and Driva valley. I was there with my friends from Prague. We drunk many bottles of alcohol and we had many funny situations on our trip.
WK Throwdown Idaho Hometown Throwdown #4 – with the Jacksons!
WK Throwdown (Saturday 17th) * - The Jackson motor home, piled with boats and mini-cooper in tow, screeched into the parking lot at 3:59:57pm – a good 3 seconds before our start-time. E.J. likes showing up early for an event. And Kristine thought he was going to be late… He and Dane put in just as we were starting and they milled around the eddy answering questions, giving pointers, and Dane helps score a bit as well.
Sweet June Video Update
Sweet (Sunday 18th) * - Last week has been pretty busy for me. Have been working as a safety kayaker on Arkansas river, kayaked every day after work, worked for catering company making lunches at nights and also edited movie from June spent in Colorado. Here it is, hope you will like it.
Wavesport Blogs My Home video
Wavesport Blogs (Sunday 18th) * - This July I am based on the Arkansas river in Colorado. Its great out here. I work almost every day as a safety kayaker for Timberline Tours. In my time off I go kayak somewhere else or work on my videos, designs and gear improvement for next years..
Sweet The Royal Flush
Sweet (Saturday 17th) * - For a long time people have recognized The Royal Gorge on the North fork of the American to be one of the most hard core and committing runs in Cali. Big water fall fiends have come from all over the globe to test their skills on these sets of massive drops. For a good reason…running 80 foot drops is one thing, but to do it with 3 days of gear in your kayak and out in the middle of no where, is a whole different game.
Wavesport Blogs Colorado, Idaho, and Montana
Wavesport Blogs (Friday 16th) * - This summer I've been hanging at some of the best and most beautiful kayak destinations on Earth - and they're right here in the US. The Glenwood Wave in Glenwood Springs, CO is the best manmade spot I've ever surfed. Our US Team Trials were held here last summer, which I won in the carbon Project 54cx.
Dagger Blogs Dagger boats sweep the top spots at the 2010 Great Falls Race!
Dagger Blogs (Monday 19th) * - Paddlers in Dagger boats took all six podium positions in this year's Great Falls Race, sweeping both the long boat and short boat classes in Green Boats and Nomads. The Great falls race is held annually as part of the Potomac Whitewater Festival, which is a fundraiser for American Whitewater, and is one of the longest running extreme kayak races, first held in 1993 . Great Falls on the Potomac River is a spectacular series of cataracts with a multitude of channels and drops that are runnable depending on the river level.
Fluid Blog Detox in action on the Witte River
Fluid Blog (Monday 19th) * - With all this focus on the new composite boats the Detox is quietly going about making a mark on the industry. When I first heard about the Detox I wasn't completely sold, that wasn't until I saw it in action with my own eyes did I realise how badly I wanted this nifty new toy.
Wavesport Blogs Kimberley Expedition on the Fitzroy River - Australia
Wavesport Blogs (Sunday 18th) * - This past winter I was lucky enough to join an international group of paddlers on a 22 day whitewater expedition, in the middle of North Western Australia's Kimberley region, in efforts to bring exposure to this areas fight against development. Here are a few photos and stories from my experience.
Fat Paddler More Tiderace Fun with the Hurricane Chasers
Fat Paddler (Saturday 17th) * - There's just something about tiderace footage that gets my adrenaline running. And no-one seems to love it more than those crazy Canadians! Here's some more fun in the rush of tidal water, and keep an eye out for the wildlife in the waves! A big thank to Peter from Kayakr for bringing these guys to my attention.
Level 6 The Ottawa River
Level 6 (Friday 16th) * - I'm up at the Ottawa River now living and coaching at Keenerville next to McCoys Rapid. Garb is in right now and although I hurt my back going off the ramp we have here I managed to get a few shots of Garb. Hope all is well. Enjoy this hot weather!
Sweet Fierce battles at The SWEET Rumble BoaterX finals
Sweet (Monday 19th) * - It was Saturday night at the Sjoa River Festival, and as many years before, happy campers and local and global whitewater heroes showed up for the SWEET Rumble BoaterX event. At this years event we saw some of the fiercest boaterX battles ever to be witnessed. The racecourse was moved from the infamous Aamot falls on lower Sjoa, to the camp section just above. And the course was not made for first timers, we're talking mean and crowd pleasing gates and a seriously hard to cross finish line.
