Northwest Rafting Company Mining projects threaten Big Creek and the Middle Fork of the Salmon
Northwest Rafting Company - The American Independence Mines and Minerals (AIMMCO) has been given permission to do mining activity by the Forest Department in the Frank Church Wilderness premises at their Golden Hand site located within the headwaters of Big Creek, a tributary of the Middle Fork of the Salmon River. The region is very scenic, with mountain ranges and rivers that are free flowing very pristine and after this this may not be the case.

Am. Whitewater - This week, the Colorado Water Conservation Board voted unanimously to seek an In-stream Flow water right on the Lower Dolores River, securing up to 900 cfs of water during spring peak flows, as well as essential winter base flows of 100 cfs. This water right will help prevent three native warm-water fish in the Dolores River from becoming threatened or endangered species.
