Playak Weekly Digest - week 32

Playak Weekly Digest
The world's top paddling links in week 32, 2010.
KayakQuixotica Boat Fit
KayakQuixotica (Tuesday 10th) *** - How you fit into your kayak can be seen as an issue of control. Simply put, you need places where your body connects to the kayak in order to make it do what you want it to do. Of course that's a little too authoritarian for my mind. Another more organic way to look at it is that on the water you become one with your kayak, it becomes your body, your skeletal structure and your skin. Your relationship to your craft is symbiotic. You don't ride in a kayak, you become one with it. You are the heart and mind of the creature, where you connect is simply the nervous system reaching out to the skin sending and receiving messages. The more connections we have the more we are able to sense our environment and control our reaction to it. We are not paddlers but creatures of the sea.
L.A. Creek Freak Not Necessarily Narrowly Navigability
L.A. Creek Freak (Wednesday 11th) ** - Here at L.A. Creek Freak, we're very excited about the EPA's determination that the Los Angeles River is navigable and is protected fully under the Clean Water Act. It's a welcome decision, strongly supported by the river's past, present, and planned future. The determination got the L.A. Times out kayaking the river (watch their excellent video!) and sparked off mayoral, journalistic, and advocate discussions of the river's bright future.
Outside Blog Kayaking Video: Dashboard Empanada
Outside Blog (Friday 6th) ** - The Demshitz crew, a group of stellar whitewater kayakers that includes Evan and Ian Garcia, Jared and Graham Seiler, and LJ Groth, just released their newest film, Dashboard Empanada. The title's a throwback to the whitewater classic Dashboard Burrito, and like Burrito, Empanada's allure is the film's unabashed love for paddling hard whitewater.
Palm Blogs A Monster Slide In Central Norway…
Palm Blogs (Sunday 8th) ** - This was Hugh's opening gambit, and the first thing I heard of the slide. He and Finn had been on a hiking mission and discovered what sounded like an absolute gem with a short hike in. Two days and a short-ish hike later, and we were stood looking at the thing. 100 m it turns out, was a conservative guess, and 'clean' had been downgraded to 'pretty clean'.
Team Pyranha Skookumchuck & British Columbia
Team Pyranha (Sunday 8th) ** - With plenty of creeking, Skookumchuck Narrows, Big D's Cafe, and rope swings; British Columbia is one of Demshitz favorite kayaking destinations. Read on & check out the rest of the photos.
Palm Blogs A Monster Slide in Central Norway… The Video

Team Pyranha (Sunday 8th) ** - Like every time Norway is one of the Best places in Europe, the problem this year was, that we had very rainy weather. But paddling makes still fun !!! Two days Nils Kagel joined us to make some nice runs around Voss.
Sweet Crystal Gorge No.2
Sweet (Monday 9th) * - Crystal Gorge close to a town of Marble/CO is one of the most beautiful places I ve ever been. Its also at least two hours from the closest hospital. Absolutelly typical run for a head cam I brought with the other day.
Immersion Research Demshitz in Washington State
Immersion Research (Tuesday 10th) * - Demshitz goes on a wonderful trip to Washington state. Along the way we ended up running the Little White Salmon and it's next door neighbor the Green Truss. Also, have you heard of Hamma Hamma falls. Well my friends it is a stout for sure. We ended up at a pretty nice party as well..enjoy!
adidas Sickline News from Siberia
adidas Sickline (Tuesday 10th) * - In the Bashkaus River Canyon in Siberia there is a book waiting in a metal box for all those kayakers who are not too scared to run Russia's toughest rapids. Ten of the world's best whitewater expedition kayakers aim to master the challenging river and write their names into the Book of Legends. Bernhard Mauracher is one of them.
Mike Dawson Tacen and back
Mike Dawson (Monday 9th) * - After a short break, and the training camp in Bratislava I'm back in Ljubljana, Slovenia on the course here in Tacen. The course here is pretty quite at the moment as most of the guys have headed off to the Europeans which are going to be held this weekend in Bratislava. We'll be going there next week for the Slovak open. As it's the only race prior to the worlds.
Jackson Kayak Jackson Kayak Launches the World's First Real River Fishing Kayak, the Coosa!
Jackson Kayak (Tuesday 10th) * - I didn't really think that their would be any categories left in the kayak fishing market by the time we made one… however, thanks to Drew Gregory for opening our eyes to the fact that fishing kayaks aren't made for the rivers and we really need one, we jumped on that opportunity and came out with a winner.
Dagger Blogs Team River Runner Veteran Kayaks Great Falls of the Potomac!
Dagger Blogs (Monday 9th) * - For five years I've been a volunteer instructor with Team River Runner, a non profit organization that provides kayaking as therapeutic recreation for injured military Veterans . TRR's motto is " Health and healing through paddling". Witnessing that health and healing occurring for people who have sacrificed so much makes me very proud of our paddling community and is a testament to the beauty and power of the river experience.
DeRiemer Adventure Kayaking 2010 Middle Fork Salmon, Idaho-trip reports
DeRiemer Adventure Kayaking (Wednesday 11th) * - We haven't posted here for some time now and it hasn't been for a lack of material. Feels like we've been full-on since we returned from Ecuador the first part of March. It was upon our return that we learned from our Middle Fork of the Salmon outfitter that the snow pack in the Pacific Northwest was looking bleak. It seems that all the winter storms had been swinging further south, dropping their snow on southern Oregon and much of California.
