Playak News Flash - September 9, 2010
The world's latest paddling headlines.
Playak Playriver: UK, Wales, Cardiff, Cardiff International White Water (CIWW)
Playak - Cardiff International White Water (Welsh: Dŵr Gwyn Rhyngwladol Caerdydd) is an Olympic standard White water course centre based at the Cardiff International Sports Village in Cardiff Bay.
PDX River Explorers Late Summer Kayaking on Mt. Adam's! "Upper Upper Cispus River"
PDX River Explorers - The Upper Upper section of the Cispus is a great run! Waterfalls, boulder gardens, canyons, ledges, slot drops, mank, and wood all lie within its tight walls. Cold water, wood and mank keep some paddlers away, but the quality drops that make up the majority of this run make it more than worth while.
Shadow of Somoni First river in Tajikistan!
Shadow of Somoni - Friday night we all headed up into the hills to the north-west of Dushanbe, aiming for the Karatog river – Dave and Ben's last run of their trip and the first of ours. We stayed at a fairly delapidated holiday village where we made friends with some very drunk russian characters who were pretty keen to wrestle. In the end Rich obliged with an arm wrestle but wisely decided that discretion was the better part of valour and let the wookie win.
Stan Mac Kenzie Gerrard and Mermaids
Stan Mac Kenzie - Well it was good to see Gerrard the other day. Gerrard is doing tours for Outfitters down in Bay Bulls. My son and my Dad were coming back from a picnic down in Ferryland. I saw Gerrard on the water and popped by to say hello. It got me longing to be back in my boat. Soon I say, soon.
Stan Mac Kenzie The Edge Of The World........Cape Spear Light Paddle
Stan Mac Kenzie - Well it is no secret now that Cape Spear is the most easterly location in North America. This is neat for two reasons for me. One, I can and have seen the sun rise first before anyone else in North America and Two, it is a romantic coastal spot. Great for viewing storms, really great for hanging out in fog (real thick fog taking pics), spectacular view atop high cliffs, nice hiking trails and well you can paddle it.
Happy Paddlin' Eddyline Samba Review
Happy Paddlin' - I finally was able to get the Eddyline Samba in some wind and waves. I've been really looking forward to this boat for this type of day paddling. Just messing around near the beach...
FlowFree French Alps 2010
FlowFree - Earlier this year we spent several weeks in the French Alps, where we had great water levels and super-hot sunshine almost every day :-)
WK Throwdown NOC Canoe Club Challenge – Slalom & Downriver Race Coverage
WK Throwdown - Big Boomin' Fun was not in short supply at the Nantahala Gorge this past weekend (8-14-2010)!! Several paddling clubs from around the southeast region came together at the Nantahala River for some very fun times and friendly competition. It was awesome to see so many paddlers from around our region gathered together to enjoy a day out on the river! The combined slalom & downriver race events saw a total of over 350 race starts over the day!!!
Outside Blog Video: The Grey Whale Sessions
Outside Blog - Chris Christenson has been shaping surfboards for over a decade. He's never been a pro surfer, so imagine his surprise when the 37-year old got a call inviting him to star in a surfing film. Outside called up the Cardiff by the Sea, CA resident as he sat in traffic on the way to the premiere of Grey Whale Sessions at the US Open of Surfing in Huntington Beach.
