Playak News Flash - September 18, 2010
The world's latest paddling headlines.
Whitewater-Koa Tom and Kelby going big
Whitewater-Koa - So im back home now and I must say its good to be here! Its been a tough year with injury but at least I'm home now to deal with it all! Lately I have been editing a bunch of footage and getting things lined up to start shooting my next film which I'm stoked about!
Wavesport Blogs First Descents in Thailand
Wavesport Blogs - One of the biggest appeals of going to Thailand, for myself, was the fact that not much was really known about paddling there. Several crews of paddlers have ventured here in the past, but there seemed to be so much more whitewater to discover. And one of my big drives for this season was to get out into these "unknown" areas and do as much exploring as possible.
New River Academy Lachine, an Ocean Wave in Montreal
New River Academy - Yesterday some of us from the New River Academy went to the Lachine Rapids in Montreal. The Lachine Rapids are a series of huge wave trains that flow through the center of Montreal. Being there is a strange experience because you are in this huge city on a huge river that has no business being there. The reason we were there wasn't to run the river however, it was to play.
Jackson Kayak Pikey in a Tutu and other shots
Jackson Kayak - Thought I'd just send in some pictures of the cool paddling I've been up the last few months. I've been busy most weekends either training biking or boating, I've enjoyed going to paddling events such as the Summer Sausage Festival up at Holme Pier Point in Nottingham or the Tryweryn Festival in Wales not forgetting a great 3rd birthday event for ThamesValleyFreestylers.
Jackson Kayak Leaving home or going home?
Jackson Kayak - Leaving home or going home? That is what I was asking myself on a recent visit to Canada. My first stop was Canmore AB, where I once spent four winters, braving the cold to paddle year round on the Kananaskis River. Myself and a fair-sized group of Canadian paddlers descended on the Kan in the quest to make the Canadian team.
Jackson Kayak Nick Troutman 2010 in review with GoPro HD Hero: VIDEO
Jackson Kayak - Here is a quick little video of my 2010 year so far seen from the lens of my GoPro HD Hero. Everywhere from creeking in the South East, to surfing Glenwood on the USA tour, a couple runs in California, a couple of the big rapids on the Grand Canyon and some good ol' wave riding on Lachine and the Ottawa back up in canada on my home turf.
Fluid Blog Scotty's 2010 South African Season
Fluid Blog - 2010 has been a great season for me. With almost all South African rivers being rainfall dependent it often requires a paddler to put in a considerable amount of effort and travelling in order to get quality whitewater. I've been lucky enough to have the time to chase the rain around the country.
Mt. Hood H2O Milk Creek/ Zigzag River
Mt. Hood H2O - On my way back from school for the summer, I took the road through Mollola to get home. There is a creek I had crossed over before in the town of Colton that I had looked at before with little water. This time I stopped to check it out as the area had been pummeled by rain recently. I was still surprised to find it at a perfect flow.

LiquidLore Raquette Race Recap
LiquidLore - Last weekend was a race on the Raquette River - an eastern summer and fall dam-release class IV-V classic. By all accounts it was a success and there'll be a repeat next Labour Day weekend.

SeaKayakPhoto.com Midges at the mill, on Gigha
SeaKayakPhoto.com - We now turned our bows to the north and up the exposed west coast of Gigha. It was a wonderful day with light winds and only a little swell coming in from the Atlantic. I soon had the sail up.
Palm Blogs Early start on Loch Rannoch
Palm Blogs - After an overnight drive I arrived in Kinloch Rannoch at around 3 am and knowing the forecast for the day was good decided to snatch an hour or so sleep before setting off on my trip. A short time later I awoke as the sun broke through, and I was greeted with the stunning early morning view of Loch Rannoch.
SeaKayakPhoto.com Paying our respects to the Brownie on Cara
SeaKayakPhoto.com - On landing on Cara, Phil and I doffed our caps to the resident spirit, the Brownie. We both said "Good afternoon Mr Brownie, I trust you are well." Note a hatless Phil and a hatted Donald!
