Playak Weekly Digest - week 36

Playak Weekly Digest
The world's top paddling links in week 36, 2010.
PDX River Explorers Late Summer Kayaking on Mt. Adam's! "Upper Upper Cispus River"
PDX River Explorers (Thursday 9th) *** - The Upper Upper section of the Cispus is a great run! Waterfalls, boulder gardens, canyons, ledges, slot drops, mank, and wood all lie within its tight walls. Cold water, wood and mank keep some paddlers away, but the quality drops that make up the majority of this run make it more than worth while.
Whitewater-Koa Haew Suwat Waterfall - the one that got away!
Whitewater-Koa (Tuesday 7th) ** - I'm not really sure where to go with this post as it is one that I'm stoked about but on the other hand super gutted about. Basically my year has been plagued with various injuries which have kept me off the water a lot and just when things were going good it turned upside down again!
Wavesport Blogs How to do the "draw rudder"
Wavesport Blogs (Friday 3rd) ** - The stroke I'm going to present now has been one of the most complicated maneuver to teach and to learn. The aim of this post is to put order and, why not, physics, to understand what I call the draw rudder. I use basically only this stroke to change direction because is the most efficient way not to loose speed and to avoid the drifting effect.
Wavesport Blogs How to Throw a Throw Rope
Wavesport Blogs (Saturday 4th) ** - This "how to" is a little tid bit on safety on the river. One of the big things that needs to be part of a boaters knowledge is how to throw a throw rope. It can help you in emergency situations and just help pull your buddy out of the river quickly.
Dagger Blogs A Beginner's Guide to Loading Kayaks on Your Vehicle
Dagger Blogs (Monday 6th) ** - Ok, so you just bought a kayak, but now you're wondering how you're going to get it home on your car. Or maybe you've figured out how to carry one boat, but now you're headed to the river with four of your friends and you have to carry their boats too. The process of loading boats onto a vehicle can be a bit over whelming at times, especially the first time you try to carry a load you're not used to.
Evan Garcia Tatlow Hike-a-thon
Evan Garcia (Monday 6th) ** - They say a picture says a thousand words...These say a million! It's hard to capture the beauty of a place like Tatlow creek, being so hidden away. However, I think these shot from Candace do a pretty dam good job. Take a peek at my last Tatlow update and you will get what I'm saying. Tatlow 2007.
Dave Goadby Yoshino River
Dave Goadby (Sunday 5th) ** - After leaving Kyoto we took a long drive south and spent 5 days on Shikoku. Our time was spent paddling the two canyons of the Yoshino, 'Oboke' and 'Koboke'. Although we only paddled 25km of the river it was so good we had to do it again, and again! We camped at the local rafting company base, right on the river, next to a little side creek for evening entertainment.
Peter Csonka Lipno Devils extrem race - more images & video
Peter Csonka (Wednesday 8th) ** - Lipno festival is the biggest kayak event in Czech republic. This small calm area became for one weekend a year overcrowded by kayakers and rafters from all around the europe. Lipno is small creek witch flows trough national park. There is not enough water for kayaking but once a year at the end of summer they release water form dam and this small creek became a wild river. You can find there many rapids, holes and jumps.
Kayak Thailand Cafe falls
Kayak Thailand (Friday 3rd) ** - Over the past few days, we have paddled the Mae Taeng several times which is a supper fun boulder garden run, at this time of year it always seems to have plenty water, and means we can hang out with the Siam river Crew (who as I have said before are lovely people)
Shadow of Somoni First river in Tajikistan!
Shadow of Somoni (Wednesday 8th) ** - Friday night we all headed up into the hills to the north-west of Dushanbe, aiming for the Karatog river – Dave and Ben's last run of their trip and the first of ours. We stayed at a fairly delapidated holiday village where we made friends with some very drunk russian characters who were pretty keen to wrestle. In the end Rich obliged with an arm wrestle but wisely decided that discretion was the better part of valour and let the wookie win.
FlowFree French Alps 2010
FlowFree (Wednesday 8th) ** - Earlier this year we spent several weeks in the French Alps, where we had great water levels and super-hot sunshine almost every day :-)
OKS Keener Garb
OKS Keener (Sunday 5th) ** - Hey its Edward here and I'm going to be talking about Garb today. First off all, Garb is a very fast wave on the Ottawa River and probably the best because it is an amazing experience once you get to surf it. It feels like you are going so fast because the water is rushing under you at a very fast pace.
Gutters of the Earth Goddard Canyon 1D
Gutters of the Earth (Monday 6th) ** - In the Spring my Minnesota friends Jason and Tommy asked my advice about when to pick a week of vacation to come out to Cali. I recommended that they pick a week dead in the middle of the projected summer run-off, guaranteeing that they would run something good, though there was no way of knowing what it might be.
Cumec Magazine Monday Morning Motivation - Tatlow Creek with Evan Garcia
Cumec Magazine (Tuesday 7th) ** - The weekend is over and you've got five days of study, work, school, left until you can get outside and on the water. While you are counting away the hours until the weekend we'll try and provide you some inspiration.
Team Pyranha Norway Part II
Team Pyranha (Saturday 4th) ** - Me on the first Drop of the lower Rauma..
