Playak News Flash - November 10, 2010
The world's latest paddling headlines.
Mt. Hood H2O First documented descent: Dragon's Throat
Mt. Hood H2O - I found this fantastic drop last summer as the water dropped out. I had been waiting for the gates to open and water to arrive. The day finally came on Nov. 3rd. Nate and Matt were fresh off their Battle Axe mission and were in an adventurous spirit. They rallied down to meet me as school got out for the day and we headed out into the hills... I'll finish this report later when I get the video put together and don't have to use my roommates computer. Dragon's throat from the top.
Level 6 Better than you imagined Premieres: Montreal + Ottawa
Level 6 - Come out and see some great films, hang out with fellow paddlers, and win some great prizes! Brought to you by Level Six and Five 2 Nine Productions. All proceeds from this event will be going to Currents River Conservation Project & First Descents.
Simon Westgarth In the recovery Wilderness
Simon Westgarth - Since my last post, it's been a while, resting, recovering, rehab, 14 weeks on crutches and a slow slow road to mobility. Of course, in reading up about displaced tibial plateau fracture, I found out it's one of the longest recovery times for any breakage, and difficult to predict when full mobility will come my way. Still this has not stopped life going on like normal, well almost normal.
Mike Dawson It's Green & mean!!
Mike Dawson - The 15th Annual Green Race took place yesterday here in the United States of America, in North Carolina- which is one of the staunchest paddling destinations in the world!
Tom Drake Finally getting back on the horse!!
Tom Drake - Righty, for a while I haven't been paddling all that regularly due to this that and the other (mainly exam and Med-School related things), but now I'm at uni I have a lot more opportunities to go paddling and it's awesome. I have started to become 'the one with a kayak in his toilet' and somehow I've just got my mitts on a new creeker too, and I have no idea where that's going to go, it may have to sleep on the bed whilst I get the space under the desk…
ECHO - OR/ID River Rafting Bhutan 2010 Trip Report
ECHO - OR/ID River Rafting - ECHO's first rafting and cultural tour of Bhutan exceeded my own expectations. For the trip, we teamed up with our friends from DeRiemer Adventure Kayaking and traveled with 5 rafters and 2 kayakers for a tour of the pristine natural environments and the seemingly unexplored culture of "the last Shangri-La".
worldkayak blogs Modi Khola, Kali Gandaki
worldkayak blogs - We found some random Swedish guys wearing kayaking t-shirts in Pokhara and ended up scheming with them to do some boating. We set off on another multi-day trip starting on the Modi Khola and continuing on into the Kali Gandaki river. We started off with a crew of 7 (6 burns and only one mamba between us!), but Sara was struck with a touch of Dehli Belly and had to walk out after one day – leaving us with a majority of Swedes on the team!
Fat Paddler Video: Dawn Paddle Through Sydney Fog
Fat Paddler - I'd planned a little trip out through the Heads and down towards Bondi, since the weather and sea conditions had forecast seas under 0.5 metres and only 5-10 knts of wind. But as I left home at 5am, it became apparent that my plans would have to change, since Sydney was blanketed under a layer of fog so thick I couldn't see further than 15 metres in front of the car.
SeaKayakPhoto.com Hats are de rigeur on the far side of Ailsa Craig
SeaKayakPhoto.com - Even although we have paddled round Ailsa Craig many times, we are always stunned by the teeming gannet colony on the SW cliffs. We could hardly hear ourselves shout over the constant croaking of the gannets. There are about 35,000 pairs nesting on the island in the spring and summer.
