My thoughts had not strayed to paddling as the water levels seemed inevitably low and had begun to think I should prepare for the winter ahead. But the paddling community eagerly caught wind of the possibility of flood watch for much of Minnesota and Wisconsin. Josh's sister just delivered her first baby girl last Wednesday morning at 5:59am and Josh and I headed back to Bend for the event. While we were down there, we decided to go boatin'...YAY!!! Palm Blogs - I recently had the pleasure of paddling from Glyndyffrdy to the Horseshoe Falls on the River Dee in North Wales. I was there to assess a number of candidates for the British Canoe Union (BCU) four star leader award in canoe. This award allows individuals to lead a group in moderate water conditions. Moderate water is defined as: large areas of open water (lakes,lochs) with winds up to force 4, and grade 2 rivers.
SUP Surf Planet Sun Sport Report, October 5, 2010 – 2010 Battle of the Paddle, Iron Man, XTERRA
SUP Surf - Two Words: UN, REAL. Thousands of Paddlers, to include the best of breed, gather in Dana Point, California annually for this "world series of paddling" event. Mr. Sunshine on site with suncare offerings- stoked to be part of it, and Planet Sun Waterman hero Duane DeSoto competed. Staged at Doheny State Beach, the event boasted a 2 day venue of distance, sprint, and relay races. Delicious SoCal backdrops, bods and vibe all included free of charge – see the first pic. On the front side and periphery of paddling competition was an overly impressive expo and world class cultural events- Traditional Hawaiian Blessings, Dance and waterman craft. Tom "Pohaku" Stone, a legendary native Hawaiian waterman, was the soul for much of the activities.

SUP Surf Mag - The aloha spirit was shared by all who were in attendance at the 3rd Annual Gerry Lopez Rainbow Sandals Battle of the Paddle in Doheny State Beach last weekend. More than 500 competitors and thousands of spectators packed the beach among the SUP manufacturers' expo tents.
