Playak Weekly Digest - week 42

Playak Weekly Digest
The world's top paddling links in week 42, 2010.
River Angels Green Race Training
River Angels (Sunday 17th) **** - After a busy summer of cruising around paddling mainly creeks and rivers, I have now had 1.5 months off. As normal I have worked at the Octoberfest in Germany, and as normal I came out of the seventeen days fairly sick. We do between 12-14 hours shifts every day, and I also had to go home for a day to do a slideshow in my hometown in Norway. But. This was the first year the fest was smokefree, and for a non-smoker, it was absolutely heaven.
Wavesport Blogs How to outfit your creekboat in 27 easy steps
Wavesport Blogs (Sunday 17th) **** - By customizing your creek boat outfitting you will enhance safety, control, and comfort. Keep those three things in mind when you're designing your solution.
Jackson Kayak Photos from Inner City Strife!
Jackson Kayak (Wednesday 20th) *** - Enjoy these photos, shot by Craig Kleckner, Nicole Mansfield, Elaine Campbell, and some jerk. I've had 5 or 6 days straight of surfing this epic wave in northern New York. I'm tired and sore, but with a few more days of water left, it's GO TIME! This is truly one of the easiest-access big waves in the world with an easy eddy and roadside location. Enjoy!!!
Immersion Research The Upper G, a SUP board and $50
Immersion Research (Sunday 17th) *** - The RV smelled and looked unusually clean. Woody was commenting on how Friday night had become nearly as busy as Saturday night at Gauley Festival. Piano Bob was howling in the distance. These are the memories I was having as I pulled open the RV door after storing the final pieces of equipment from the nights LVM premiere. It was about 12:30 AM, I was done for the day and ready to go to sleep.
Jackson Kayak A few Photos from ELFing Bottom Creek
Jackson Kayak (Wednesday 20th) ** - A tropical storm drenched the VA drainage last week, bringing up lots of creeks and rivers in the region. Enjoy these photos of our trip to Bottom Creek, which is a GEM! It was low water, but we had a great time anyway. It was the perfect run to enjoy our new Hero Prototypes: Short, Stable, Easy to turn, Boofing MACHINES!
Hans Heupink Drysuit neck seal repair
Hans Heupink (Monday 18th) ** - As I put on my drysuit last Tuesday-evening, the neck gasket tore. First I was a bit disappointed because I was so excited to do a rolling session with a new kayak that I am reviewing at the moment. The vulnerability of the latex-seals of a drysuit is an issue, but don't dramatize it: unless your planning a long swim- or diving party, even with a broken neck gasket a drysuit offers quit a lot of protection: I put the hood of the Kokatat-GTX-Expedition-drysuit on, pulled the cords tight and could do 10-15 rolls before I noticed the first water intrusion. Nevertheless: I want my drysuit to be dry - so it was time for a repair.
A Wet State (CA) Video: Stikine and Homathko
A Wet State (CA) (Monday 18th) ** - Darin McQuoid's goPro footage from his recent BC trip.
Dagger Blogs Why California is One of the Best Places in the World to Go Kayaking
Dagger Blogs (Saturday 16th) ** - It's been almost two months since my California summer ended and I returned home to the Southeast. With little rain here and little rain in sight, I often find myself daydreaming about California and just how awesome it is. That got me thinking, what exactly is it about California that makes it so great?
Charlie Simmons 19 days and counting...........Green River Narrows Race
Charlie Simmons (Wednesday 20th) ** - Saturday November 6th 2010; marks the day. The Green River Narrows Race is one of the worlds most extreme kayak races, and this year is the 15th annual race. There are several categories in which racers will sign up; Kayak (long boat and short boat classes), C1, Handpaddling, and Iron Man (short + long boat): and of these categories there will be mens and womens.
Am. Whitewater Paddlers Get Their Day In Court on Chattooga
Am. Whitewater (Sunday 17th) ** - Yesterday, conservation-oriented paddlers presented their case against the US Forest Service regarding the agency's illegal paddling ban on 21 miles of the Wild and Scenic Chattooga River in a federal district court hearing. The full line-up of regional paddling clubs and national organizations (ACA and AW) were present and were represented by superb pro-bono legal council.

Astral Currently Bus Eater Update
Astral Currently (Saturday 16th) ** - Rain, rain, and more rain brought the water level of the Ottawa River to the brink of spring flood. The Ottawa River locals put themselves on Stakeout watch for the slowly approaching high water Bus Eater Wave. The level never quite got to prime but the 'almost' Bus level had to be surfed.
Immersion Research Demshitz goes to upstate New York
Immersion Research (Wednesday 20th) ** - As the rain pounded in upstate New York Nicole and myself started driving north. Our first stop was the Inner City Strife wave where we met up with Jeremy Laucks, Bryan Hartman, and a few other of demshitz. Here I was able to test drive my new green dry deck from Immersion Research, which is looking very pimp as you will soon see. After a few days of non stop surfing myself, and Jeremy met up with Matt Young and several others for a run down sections 3 and 4 of the Oswegatchie.
