Playak Weekly Digest
The world's top paddling links in week 41, 2010.
Playak Kanumesse 2010 – A Sea Kayaker's View
Playak (Monday 11th) ***** - An impression of the Kanumesse 2010 from a sea kayaking perspective.
Rapid Magazine Blog Drowning on the Gauley
Rapid Magazine Blog (Wednesday 13th) **** - Only three weeks of the Gauley River whitewater season and there have been three tragic deaths.
Evan Garcia M-Wave Sessions
Evan Garcia (Wednesday 13th) **** - The M-Wave has been somewhat of my salvation the last 3 weeks I have been living in Colorado. Autumn has fully set in here in Crested Butte and not much has been going on in the kayaking front. I have spent a lot of time going through old footage and importing this summer's tapes to remember all the insane good times I had with so many incredible friends.
Kayak Session VIDEO: Sucking at Kayaking
Kayak Session (Monday 11th) **** - From the editors of Wet Dream Result, (a kayaking spoof of top extreme kayakers released earlier this year), here is the new volume from Tom Gerencer and crew: this time they analyze the real dream of every paddler: sucking at kayaking.
Huckin Huge GNARLFEST 2010 – 1st ever
Huckin Huge (Saturday 9th) *** - 8 brave competitors make their way down to the put in for one of the gnarliest courses out there.
Wavesport Blogs Playboating: Use It or Loose It
Wavesport Blogs (Monday 11th) *** - Recently Z-Dam was running in Richmond, and my buddies and I were stoked to get out there and throw some tricks. We weren't expecting to be anything like these guys, but we figured that we would be better than we were last season.
Wavesport Blogs Project X and BUS EATER Wave
Wavesport Blogs (Wednesday 13th) *** - Rain, rain, and more rain brought the water level of the Ottawa River to the bring of spring flood. The ottawa river locals put themselves on Stakeout watch for the slowly approaching high water Bus Eater Wave. The level never quite got to prime but the 'almost' Bus level had to be surfed.
Kokatat Blog Stikine In A Day
Kokatat Blog (Tuesday 12th) ** - Kokatat Ambassador Erik Boomer, Jeff West and Todd Wells returned from two back-to-back trips down the Grand Canyon of the Stikine River. The first trip took two days, followed by a one day express!
Immersion Research Fall Update from Kelsey Thompson
Immersion Research (Wednesday 13th) ** - Rather than doing what I've done for the past few years (go to Colorado and do the pro tour) I decided to mix things up and stay in Canada. This was for two reasons, one I wanted to do something different and explore more of the amazing paddling Western Canada has to offer and the second was that it was going to be really hard to try to shoot a Western Canada segment for Locals Only without being there. In 2006 I had a really similar schedule and it ended up being one of the best years of my life.
Evan Garcia Rio Claro Canyon, Chile
Evan Garcia (Saturday 9th) ** - I have been waiting for some time to edit this footage of the Rio Claro that didn't make it in to Dashboard Empanada. This was our first day of the season last year and a great start to what was sure to be the most epic Chile season ever had. The Garganta del Diablo is the most committing canyon on the Rio Claro and holds one of the most unique drops I have ever run.
Seth Ashworth Brit champs: Nottingham
Seth Ashworth (Monday 11th) ** - The sun was shone brightly on saturday for another in the series of the British Freestyle championships series. This event was a special one for me as it was scheduled to be the only event to decide the British Squirt boat championship.
PeakUK Pringle in the UK
PeakUK (Saturday 9th) ** - So a little update for you, I've been living in Nottingham this last month training at the whitewater course in the lead up to the GBR team selection events for the Plattling Worlds.
Nick Troutman Sickline World Championships: Final Results
Nick Troutman (Saturday 9th) ** - Saturday was the Finals day for the Sickline World Championships in Otztal Valley, Austria. First was the head to head knockout Semi-finals. This is where two people race against each others time, and the fastest makes it through. There is also a lucky loser, so the fastest two people who lost the semi-finals could also make it through. This knockout Semi-finals, cut from 50 to 26, and then from 26-15 for the Super Finals.
Evan Garcia Fantasy Falls; North fork of the Mokelumne 2008
Evan Garcia (Monday 11th) ** - This is a section off a movie I made from the summer of 2008 called "Burnt Summer". Being one of my favorite films I have made, I know not many people have had the chance to see this movie. So here is one short segment of the movie that goes from the East Kaweah all the way to the Metlako falls all the way to the Stikine. It is a West Coast riders movie.
Team Pyranha 3rd place at Sickline Extreme Championships
Team Pyranha (Friday 8th) * - Last Saturday I was able to reach the 3rd rank behind Sam Sutton/NZL and Michele Ramazza/ITA in the 2010 edition of the adidas Sickline Extreme Worldchampionships in the Oetz Valley/Austria, which I'm absolutely happy about.
